What are some quality bookshelf speakers that can actually be used on a bookshelf?

A friend of mine had the Billie as well, but he moved on and didn't look back. But, he has more expensive tastes than I. Actually, I like the Billie. I had been thinking about upgrading from my Merlin TSM MMs, but most advice said keep them and up...

How long should high quality speakers last?
Interesting. I've never thought that speakers would deteriorate over time. I have a pair of TSM MMs that could be 20 years old ( Bought used). They sound just fine to my old ears, but should I doing some "maintenance"?

Atmosphere.... most of the amps suggested in this thread are a bit out of my league. I'm thinking no more than $2k (new or used). Are any of the "wide range" above included in my price range? Preferably tubes, but still open to SS. Thanks

1) Tie trout flies for a fly shop on Michigan's Au Sable River. 2) Tend to my online collectable postage stamp store. 3) Build period model wooden ships ( each one takes a year or two). I love it when I am doing one of the above and a cut comes...
