Saki70, I think that so long as you use the solid state output of the Granite 657 once in a while, which would confirm that something with the output tubes are not what you are hearing, it would infer that the CD player is not causing the problem.

Bravo, Marco! Best post of the year, in my opinion. For a long time, I've railed against the objectivist argument that audio must somehow be quantified. You just put things in far better terms than I am able.No one tries to measure and assign a set...
Recommended components on Stereophile Magazine.
For many reasons, including some previously listed in this thread, the Stereophile Recommended Components List has become obsolete.A definite pattern I see is that many of the participants in the audio discussion forums seem to have more involved ...

I think your loudspeakers are fine. In fact, I have often heard Reference 3A speakers to be very energetic and engaging. You've already played a bit with cabling, and that did seemed to leave you nonplussed. My opinion on why the system does not co...

Honest1, you make an interesting point. As far as I know, Kevin Deal of Upscale Audio is one of the few, if any, people providing such service. Though, if I recall correctly, the position he takes is one of reliability. I think the way he has hist...
Modwright Transporter VS Opera Droplet 5.0 CDP.
Thanks, Chillinimrod! We are in total agreement regarding Audio Note.Unless you are simply in love with the the aesthetic, if you are not going to use the Droplet 5.0 as a standalone player, I would recommend against using it as a transport.Along w...
Modwright Transporter VS Opera Droplet 5.0 CDP.
Well, I've previously never heard anyone describe the Droplet 5.0 "tiring and irritating". In that quest to sound non-digital, most feel the company erred on the rich and full-bodied side. But (unfortunately) knowing how often Consonance changes t...

Very sad news - George Wright has died
Sorry to hear this.Never had the pleasure of owning any of his components, but the kind words in this thread go a long way to serving as a testament to them.May he rest in peace.
Which Totem Speakers
There's a certain magic (combination of imaging and musicality) the Arros possess that just about no speaker, regardless of price, can match. Not sure why, but I've yet to pick up a pair, even though I always remind myself to.That being said, many...
Scanspeak 10" driver replacement - blown woofer
Thank you for following up on the repair. Obviously, for good reason, I'm a huge fan of Bill's.
Modwright Transporter VS Opera Droplet 5.0 CDP.
Thank you for the heads up, Grant! Sorry for the late response, I took a short summer vacation...My honest opinion of Consonance is that majority of the components sound at least pretty good. However, there are some specific products/lines that ha...
The best small bookshelf speaker you ever heard?
Timrhu, in all honesty, while I believe it was not Roger Waters, I have no recollection of the song beyond the phone ringing.Bud Fried's loudspeakers have faded out of the memory of most these days. Yet, in terms of clarity, that sense of being al...
The best small bookshelf speaker you ever heard?
Fried C3/L, which serve as the satellite section of the Valhalla System, sitting on top of the D Series subwoofer. Was listening to a pair, while sitting on a sofa in front of a concrete wall. Heard a phone ringing behind me, which I obviously knew...

This is your second great post in this thread! We in the high-end audio crowd overlook the importance of bias in our tube amplifiers. Generally, the guitar amplifier crowd has a far deeper understanding of this parameter, and there are tuners build...
