Tube failure -- what would happen in worst case?
As has been said, a fire is the worst thing that can happen.Apart from that, I've seen amps take a transformer (power or output) out. That's a repair you don't want to get into.
Inactive audio members that you miss
Nostalgia ain't what it used to be...Maybe I'm getting old, but I really miss those guys. The discussion used to be a lot more interesting, in-depth, and lively back then. Or, maybe it's just me? I have a personal affection for many of the others ...
Power output of tube amps compared to solid states
Kirkus, "the particular set of energy-storage dynamics between a typical tube-amp power-supply and that of a typical solid-state amp are VERY different." Thank you for your insight! Finally, we now have something that tangibly advances the convers...
Tube flash
I've had tubes flash, cause damage, and not only measure perfectly fine, but go on and lead a typical, long, quiet suburban life.Culling tubes that test poorly in their infancy is certainly wise practice. While tubes that get through boot camp obv...
Select Your Less Than Ideal System
Another vote for "C".
Dynamics at lower volumes?
Great post, 6550c, bravo!
Son Et Image 2010
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this show. Nice job!I was wondering when this show would get some attention, either here or at AA. The silence was just about deafening.
SCHEMATIC for Sophia S.E.T. EL-34 amp
Will, it sure seemed like it, "Sophia electric, being an US design and manafacturing company."Everything I'd heard up to then was that they were Chinese components with the Sophia name on them. That's why I requested clarification. If they actually...
Tube recomendations for a newbie
Btstrg, our experiences are the opposite of one another. While I am not the biggest fan of Chinese amplifiers, as they sometimes miss on either design or implementation, among other things, I actually think the tubes have become quite good. In the...

Thanks for bringing these to light! Great seeing products Made in the USA. Please keep them coming.I'm very much looking forward to one day giving these speakers a listen.
Better sound from 6550 or kt88 tubes in Jadis amp?
In my opinion, the answer is, neither.I have three Jadis amplifiers, all can take EL34/6CA7, KT77, 6550, KT88, and KT90. And, I have to say that I prefer EL34/6CA7 (Mullard, then JJ) best, followed by KT77 (only tried JJ). Sovtek 6550 were the wor...
SCHEMATIC for Sophia S.E.T. EL-34 amp
Washington_highend_audio, are you saying the Sophia products are manufactured here in the USA?
Power output of tube amps compared to solid states
Once again, I return to how radical a departure Arthur's posts are when discussing power in amplifiers. Unfortunately, our posts are again dealing in the traditional means of trying to explain how the watts we measure in a tube amplifier versus a ...
Power output of tube amps compared to solid states
Arthur, thank you for the insight, I appreciate it. There's a lot to think about there.I believe the transmission analogy is a good one. Even if for me, accepting the inherent performance superiority of dual clutch transmission, nothing can replac...
Power output of tube amps compared to solid states
Honestly, Arthur, these two you have submitted are among THE all time posts here on Audiogon. For my money, quite possibly, in fact, the best. I'd be more than interested and appreciative if you laid out as much of what you've concluded as you des...
