Triode or Ultra-linear? Why?
@lloydc A good friend had an inside relationship with the folks at Mesa, and used a Baron for a while.  Mesa got out of the high-end audio business due to a lot of "advice" coming in regarding how to build an amplifier, especially in relation to a...
Capitol Audio Fest
@larryi Fantastic show report.  Thank you!
New York HiFi Show: Tubes and Turntables
There were plenty of CD players at the NYC show on Friday.  In fact, I wondered about so many rooms using them en route to putting the best sound forward
Any Rethm Bhaava owners?
That makes sense davide256.  I agree with you on the rectification, though it would sound stiffer than a tube rectifier.  I will guess the cathode bias topology played at least as big role into what you didn't like.  Fixed bias amplifiers provide ...
New York Stereo show at Park Lane Hotel
Unfortunately, a REALLY bad show.  Not the worst I've visited, that honor goes to the year the show returned to NYC.  But this came in second place.  I felt happy hearing well the Capitol Audio Fest went off, which I should have drove down to, and...
Capitol Audio Fest
Not sure how I missed it, but would have gone.Talked to a few people in NYC this weekend, and they told me the CAF went off really well.  3X the rooms, and far better sounding than the NYC show, unfortunately
For tube sound, which is more important: preamp or power amp?
Power amplifier, no doubt
FRIED C/3 Monitor 6.500" Midbass driver replacement ???
Several options here...Bud used several different midbass drivers.  Do you have the C/3 or the C/3L aka C/4?  The former are sealed, the latter are true transmission line.  In the end, he disliked Focal most but liked Gefco (defunct, out of Chicag...
Veterans Day
Thank you to all who have served.  We cannot repay the debt
Any Rethm Bhaava owners?
Though I've not purchased them, I've loved the Rethm loudspeakers for about a decade now.  I've also spent a considerable amount of time with Jacob George, and he's almost a friend.Heard the Bhaava at the NYC show yesterday, powered by Linear Tube...
What should I buy to replace my Herron VTSP 1
I think you put forth a very intelligent response, and make a lot of sense.Although probably the most ubiquitous, 6922 based preamplifiers often sound less romantic and fleshed out to me than other implementations, and can lead to not feeling comf...
What should I buy to replace my Herron VTSP 1
The Herron has gained the reputation as an excellent sounding and performing tube preamplifier. So moving to something else may simple become change for change sake, which we all sometimes want or need. Personally, I have a few ideas, but want t...
Difference between Rega and NAD sound
@rar1, I agree with you.I've owned both, and recommend them.  But it's definitely not a coin toss, as they sound quite different.  Rega sounds warmer, richer, and fuller bodied.  NAD is more upfront, and what people may consider neutral
Are future improvements in Amp/PreAmps slowing to a crawl?
@roger_paul We met about a decade ago, as you demo’d your components to my audio (Philadelphia) audio group. My feelings of the day were that you were an incredibly nice and gracious person, and we spent a lot of the time talking face to face with...
...changing the Tubes on the Jadis DA50 worth it ?
I have 3 Jadis integrateds, an Orchestra Reference, Defy DA30 (grandfather of the DA50S), and a DA60 (father of the DA88S). I own other amps, and have owned many amplifiers, both tube and solid state over the past 20 years. In my experience, Jadis...
