Stereophile review of the new Wilson Watt/Puppy
@eteitelman The B&W's are very nice speakers.  If you are using the Octave amp then it sounds like they are a nice match.  I am not sure the Wilson's are achieving their best performance with a 70W at 4 ohm tube amp even though it says 25W min...
GaN FET Amps vs. Traditional Class D Amps
Class D amplifiers barely scratch the surface of the capabilities of GaN semiconductor devices.  Compared to Si devices, GaN can operate a higher frequencies, higher voltages, higher power and higher temperature.  An amplifier can be designed to t...
How hot is too hot?
The efficiency of a heat sink can be greatly improved by disturbing the boundary layer that forms at the heatsink/air interface.  It's like wind chill.  This doesn't take much.  Measure the temperature of the heatsink and then gently move the air ...
New buy, no return policy
@mintakax congrats on the wonderful speakers and the smooth delivery and setup. I am just saying I don’t think there are any bad guys here, not you, not TMR and not the dealer.  Most importantly you are the winner because you love the speakers.
New buy, no return policy
I am surprised by the reactions to the dealer in this thread.  I would not have expected the dealer to demo 250 lbs each speakers in my home unless I lived next door, even at $48k.  Maybe something that I could take home myself but in reality I ha...
Repair for speaker cabinet
The nature of the repair and who would be best to do the repair depend on the nature of the damage, the material the speaker is made of and the type of finish.  Without a picture it is tough to say but you may want to look for a guitar repair shop...
1 meter speaker cables
Thank you all for your responses. @randymaqp and @soix  Good to hear.  That helps a lot. @inna I am using Ayre monoblock amplifiers so hopefully interaction with the amp will be minimal @tony1954 Words to live by. @erik_squires I agree with yo...
1 meter speaker cables
Thanks. soix and jond. So could I demo different cables at the longer lengths, pick the one I like and expect the same sound when I special order a 1m length?  Am I overthinking this?
Stereophile review of the new Wilson Watt/Puppy
Congrats.  Is the dealer fling in to set them up?  It took 3 people over 4 hours for unpacking and initial placement and they will be coming back after a few hundred hours for final setup.  All in all an excellent experience.
Short in my system?
Search on amazon for “grounding plug with grounding strap” and you will find a three prong plug that can be plugged into an outlet and a grounding strap connected to it.
Stereophile review of the new Wilson Watt/Puppy
I saw this thread a while ago and found it interesting but I was waiting for delivery of the Watt/Puppys and wanted to see if my listening experience would provide any insight.  I have been listening for about three weeks so here goes.   I am not...
Wilson Watt Puppies 50th year Anniversary model
I have had the 50th anniversary edition Watt/Puppy for about 3 weeks.  I am using them with Ayre MX-R amplifiers.  These replaced Wilson Sophia 2s that I used for over 15 years.  At the time I got the Sophia 2s I listened to the then, just releas...
Sonus Faber speakers - what's your experience?
I also liked the sound of the Sonus Fabers at the Audio Advice event.  I believe on Friday they were the Lilium, so 1 step down from the Aida but still $75k.  To me that was the best sounding room at the show.  How finnicky are they in placement ...
Recommendations for Power Conditioner Upgrade From Old Shunyata Hydra 8
You may want to check the Naim forum as there is a lot of discussion about whether to use a power conditioner at all with a Naim power supply. I have tried my XPS DR both plugged directly to the outlet and through a power conditioner with little a...
