The Next Step - what would you do?
If you like the Acoustical Jazz then set up a second system with some older tube gear and Quad ESLs. This set up will lend itself to upgrades that will keep you interested for a few years.

Is it OK to place speakers behind me ?
In the TV show "House", the speakers are behind the desk chair. Since House has a Sota and is really smart, it must be ok. PS. Any episodes where he actually listens to the stereo through the speakers and not the headphones?
The Hub: QUAD ESL-57, Some good things last a lifetime.
I heard them 20 years ago, one pair with a Quicksilver amp and the other pair with a Marantz 8b. The Quicksliver was better. That set-up blew me away. Someday, I wouldn't mind building a system with these Quads.
Anybody in NC that's retired and loves audio

Is Hi-fi getting more expensive?
I think the opportunity to spend astronomic funds on hi-fi has existed since the 50's. The booming economy expanded the hi-end market, just as it did for many other high ticket, high priced luxury items. The Luxury Yacht market's best year since t...
Sterophile's not so nice review of Bryston
The press is very powerful. Reviewers can makes us feel good about a product we own or want to buy, but they can also make us feel bad as well for buying a certain product. Suddenly, it is no longer about how it sounds or if we like it.I had some ...
Sterophile's not so nice review of Bryston
Back in the day when brick and mortar audio stores could be found in almost every town, I heard the Bryston gear here and there but never really liked it.I can be swayed but in the end I believe only my own ears. They can write whatever they want....
Successful ARC models
I have been using my ARC SP-15 preamp for about 9 years now. I am very pleased with it. The phono section has good bass and sweet highs and it has great flexibility with switchable impedance loading. In 2004 I sent it back to ARC for a check-up and...
As system improves, do bad recordings sound worse?
Audioquest4life says it best. You can't get something out of nothing. If the source is flawed, the rest of the chain cannot fix it. Perhaps a helpful tool in our hobby would be the Recording Engineer's name just below the song title, or at least n...
Granite under wood for better isolation?
Me too. Think it is ok to put a film of plastic on top of the sand?
Granite under wood for better isolation?
I have had granite under my CDP, Amp and TT for a few years now. After reading this thread, it gave me pause. I grabbed my wife's bamboo cutting board and placed it under my CDP (on top of the granite) just to see if it would make any difference. ...
Why did I get married?
It's not about the music. It is about giving her some of your time...
Great systems in butt-ugly rooms
As I thought about it last night, he was on the leading edge of the state of the art in audio. I think he talked to people all around the Mi, Mn area including people at ARC. Back in 1989, I paid him, if I recall correctly, about $400 to upgrade m...
