Cable Queries
I've had years of experience with MIT and Kimber cables, and have recently changed to Stealth--see descriptions at www.interlinkhouse.com. They come with a 30 day money-back guarantee, and they are WORLDS better than MIT or Kimber. Ask stnemo@star...
Wadia,Pass,Avalon
No experience with that combo, but I can tell you that the Pass Aleph 3 works beautifully with a 10K ohm passive preamp with Quad ESL 63's, against all expectations. The Wadia 830 will have a bigger output than my Sonic Frontiers SFCD-1, so I don'...
It's not the sound I want!
After all the advice you've gotten, most of which sounds right to me, I'd just add: look for a used Sonic Frontiers SFCD-1 one-piece CD player. It has a tubed output stage, and impressed the Stereophile people, including Atkinson, before it got mo...
Reasonably priced power cords
I've used Classe, Cardas, homemade ones of my own (sold five to a dealer, so not too bad), and changed recently to Stealth, which are by far the best I've heard. I use them with a Cinepro Line Balancer, whose creator says power cords don't matter ...
Passive vs. active preamps
If you decide to build a passive, I have advice since I have a design for one that sounds better than the line stage of a CAT SL-1 III. Get a pair of Shallco "true ladder" attenuators from The Parts Connection (part of Sonic Frontiers) and four go...
Budget Insulation Advice
You might look at "Sound Studio Construction on a Budget", F. Alton Everest, for ideas. Maybe your local library has it or can get it for you on loan. It's a great book for other aspects of room treatment too, so buying it wouldn't be a waste, eve...
Opinions Needed!!
When I was doing wha you're about to do, I joined the DIY Loudspeakers list. They get discounts from several suppliers, including Madisound and Avatar. You also get buried in email, but you can unsubscribe after getting the info you need. I'm happ...
Power Cord for Spectral Amp
I'd check out www.interlinkhouse.com for Stealth power cords. I haven't heard them, but have five other Stealth cable products, and they are excellent! And affordable. I'd also look for Stealth power cords on Audiogon and Audio Shopper--I think I'...
Power Conditioner Confusion-Help!!
I had Power Wedges and replaced them with a Cinepro 20, and have never looked back. Contact Eric Abraham, their founder. You can find them on line, if not, get back to me.
cable advice for subwoofer
Sorry, I forgot: www.interlinkhouse.com, stnemo@starpower.net.
cable advice for subwoofer
I'd contact Serguei of Interlink House (Stealth cables). In my experience, he knows a tremendous amount about this stuff. His cables are "affordable" too.
Pass Amp w/Vandersteen 3's?
Why not ask Nelson Pass? He'd at least tell you what others have found (and recommend that you try the combo before buying, probably). Contact him on the Web, Passlabs.com, I think.
