anyone listened to JVC DVD-AUDIO player?
I bought the JVC when it was $600 and a Panasonic A-7 about 5 months ago. The CD and DVD-V sound was no better than my 2 year old Sony 300. I thought the JVC was more detailed, but harsher than the other two. Of the three, my 22 year old son prefe...
Virgin Records announces support of SACD
Jcbtudes, sounds like you should be a SACD supporter. Where DVD-A has its roots in Multichannel and the stereo option is sometimes missing or poorly implemented and CD stereo not an option, SACD has its roots in CD and SACD stereo. All SACD discs ...
Marantz SA-1 SACD player....worth it ?
Remember that the SCD-1 can be bought under $3,000. Sony has announced a $1,700 list multichannel player in April. Only time will tell how it compares with the SCD-1. I would assume it will be better than the $1500 S9000ES CD/DVD/SACD player.
SCD-1 vs DVP-S9000ES
I haven't compared. What I've read is that the SCD-1 sound is more defined and dynamic. The S9000ES has more accurate mid-range and deeper bass. All differences are subtle. I can't verfiy any of this, but the SCD-1 overall is generally viewed as a...
How would you start with 5K?
I agree with the comments before me, with one twist. In HT the most important speaker is the center channel. I would buy a B&W that matched the sound of your 804's. Ideally, it should be another 804 or better. I can't stress enough the importa...
HDCD , 24/96--mutually exclusive
Just curious. Isn't HDCD 18/44 or 20/44 encoding on the disc which requires HDCD hardware to decode?
SACD vs ANALOG
It's true that extended frequency response is a (the?) main attribute of SACD. However, even playing SACD from my 9000ES into my Rotel 985 pre/pro (which immediately converts the analog signal to a 48K/24bit digital signal, processes it, and then ...
Coping in an Age of Uncertainty
Interesting article. Many of the Japanese companies are working together to build other 1-bit equipment like amps, radio transmitters, video processing, etc. One-bit technology is not only better--it's cheaper--and it's use it growing.http://www.e...
SACD vs ANALOG
I'll never get rid of my records. There's too many good memories even with the clicks, pops, surface noise, limited play, and flipping that occrus too often. I have about 500.But I'll never buy another.-I'll never get rid of my CDs. I'm still a BM...
Coping in an Age of Uncertainty
If you decided not to read the above article, let me reprint an excerpt:If you read of, or hear people that say, "SACD is no big deal," you MUST immediately ask yourself if they are deaf,if they have a mediocre audio system, or if they have hidden...

Coping in an Age of Uncertainty
Just for fun, go to a store with a 30-day return policy and buy a S9000ES. Compare the CD and DVD sound with what you got right now. You also get a SACD sampler disc free so you can listen to SACD right away even though the sampler is not the best...
Sony 9000es vs my old marantz cd63?
I do not know about the Marantz. I know that my S9000ES has significantly better CD and DVD sound than my Sony 300 (orignal cost $500), Panasonic A7 ($500), JVC723GD ($600), and Sony 550 (I think my son paid $500). Others have reported it better t...
SACD vs ANALOG
Not all changes need to be radical. Sometimes the changes are smaller, like the move from 78's to 33's. Or in HT, the move from Dolby Prologic to Dolby Digital to DTS.Right now, the only radical change I think possible would be a change to a forma...
SACD vs ANALOG
I remember when CD's came out. The cheapest players were $1500 and there was little software. I bought 2 CDs a year before I bought my first CD player. It was almost 3 years until you could buy CDs in normal record stores, and then it was a small ...
