Can I plug an amp into my Chang Conditioner
I use my Chang 3200 for my power amp - Audio Research Classic 30, which I NOT a power hog by any means. I think it makes an audible difference. I use it also for some other gear, but it has little effect there. My Musical Fidelity pre has some mig...
I Hardly Listen to Music Anymore
I go through phases of listening less for exactly the reasons you described - I like listening intently and have less time these days than when I was a student and first got audiophiled. I have to say I've also gotten more involved in live music, ...
Does Your System Sound Like the Real Thing?
This is the ultimate question and the answer for me hasalways been "of course not". But, it's not what I expect.Just like sex, music is more in the mind than the body.If that weren't true, any music reproductionsystem would be worthless.I would li...
Help Where to start with jazz?????
The Ken Burns Jazz PBS series was a great intro tojazz. There is a multi-CD recording of musicfrom the early 1900's to the 1990's.Listening to the radio is an excellent way to getacquainted with jazz. Just go buy something youheard and liked and t...
Tube preamp w/tone controls around $500?
I used a Musical Fidelity X-Tone to adjust tonewhen necessary. I leave it out of my setup most of thetime, but it's great for some of my LPs and evensome overly bright CDs from the 80s. It also improvesthe sound of LPs recorded with non-RIAA equal...
Budget DAC Recommedations for Audigy EX soundcard
You can't beat Musical Fidelity DACs for the money.
The best DAC for the money
I think the Musical Fidelity X/DAC HDCD is amazing, and not just because it goes for about $200 used!
Quad is going to happen to me?
I've been hooked on Quad for 25 years now and haveexperimented with various "fixes". All the changes Iattempted with my Quads only degraded the sound.I say leave 'em alone and enjoy the unique soundthey provide.
Can you buy a quiet fan for amp?
If you're using an AC fan, try a DC fan. In general,DC motors run quieter. Another advantage of of a DCfan is that you can run it at lower voltage, which meanslower rpm and lower noise. Try a 12v fan (common)running at 9v - just buy some generic w...
considering re-entry to vinyl Linn 12
Of all the stands I've tried, I've never found anything better and more solid than a wall mount for my LP12. They can be found here on audiogon in the $200 range.Since you favor the sound AR LS-5, go with an AR phono stage too. I use my old SP-6 f...
Can Tube CDP act as Tube Preamp??
You should be able to adjust the output of the CDP using the remote - at least I could on my Tjoeb'99. You could also try a Creek OBH10 or OBH12 as a passive preamp - really just a remote controlled volume control.
Best sounding LP's
I've been collecting LPs for about 40 years and definitely find differences among them. It's not ALWAYS related to label, but in general I've found European labels to have a higher quiality. I'm particulary fond of Philips. On the other hand, two ...
reading and decoding hdcd`s
I use an external DAC (Musical Fidelity X-DAC/HDCD) for all my CDs. It is relatively inexpensive ($150-$200) here on audiogon, though seen only every few months. In my experience, HDCDs sound better, but they also sound better even WITHOUT a HDCD ...
What's the best USB audio interface?
The Edirol UA-1A will do the job for you, doing the D/A conversion as well. But the UA-1D passes SPDiF/Toslinkto your DAC and I'll bet your DAC isbetter than the one in the UA-1A.Go for the UA-1D.
Are any Diana Krall recordings available on vinyl?
I'd sure like that, too. I bought both her SACDs.The sound is better, but these are my leastfavorite recordings of hers :(I bet a vinyl pressing wouldn't be worth it,assuming the original recordings were digital, not analog.
