Best cartridge/stylus under $80? Tough call, the Shure is fantastic at $80.... @ $105, I really like the Nagaoka MP110. I believe that these will both be livelier than the Grado, It can be a bit dark in some systems, but these all 3 are terrific cartridges at that $100 range....

Speaker Placement Sorry Srafi, my fingers are faster than my mind... that was the chairs between your speakers and sofa need to go.
Speaker Placement By the Srafi, the speakers in between your speakers and sofa have to go... I do fear that you'll need a few ceiling tiles, decent size rug in front of the sofa and on the wall behind, Not necessarily in the center, but toward the corners, you'll...
Powering DQ-10s 200 watts is fine.... its been years since i've heard them, but the first time I heard them was the best... Used an ARC SP-10 powering Kenwood L07M's.... Those were 150 watt mono blocks and lit them up quite well.

Pre Amp for $400 ?? A true audiophile product with remote @ $400 is pretty tough... The Sumo & McCormack are both nice sounding pieces.... the Low end Classe models actually do have remotes available and $400 does happened on occasion for a CP 35 or lower, you ma...
What makes an expensive speaker expensive Hi audioman2015, yep, recently recapped some old Kef's for a buddy, same scenario, he fell over. Tim
What makes an expensive speaker expensive "Speaking of crossover parts, it is easy to take an inexpensive low and mid grade speaker to a much higher level by just replacing the caps, resistors, and inductors to higher quality ones"While I agree 100% with audioman2015, I want to caution a...
Magtech amplifier over heating. I know Coda has made some changes to that Circuit in recent months... Might be worth giving Doug a call. He will talk openly and honest, then you can follow up with Roger. Good Luck
What makes an expensive speaker expensive I just realized that I did not answer the last question from the op...No, I would not be surprised to find that a $10,000 speaker could outperform a few $100,000 to $150,000 speakers, much less a $30,000 speaker. Its all taste.... the Accuton ce...
What makes an expensive speaker expensive Hi All, Tubes 444, while I agree with your assessment, right off the top of my head, I can think of 10 or 12 quality current driver manufactures. Tim |
