PS Audio Delta 100
I sold these amplifiers way back when.  I had 2 different versions,  1 had the filter caps next on either side of the transformer and the other had the filter caps mounted on the boards. The boards on both were on the bottom of the chassis with th...
Looking for an Integrated below $2000
I want to say Thank You to Johnny Rutan.  He reached out to me sharing his opinion of each of these amps, giving a fairly detailed analysis of the sound character of each.  At no time did he try to sell me anything. He was helpful,  gave me his ce...
Looking for an Integrated below $2000
I've been scouring the web looking for any comparisons of these amps. Has anyone compared any of these?  Any help is very much appreciated,Tim
Looking for an Integrated below $2000
@stereo5 Thanks for your reply,  I believe that you are right. I've got several reason's why the top 2 are there.  There are a couple of these amps on Agon.  I've found a few of them for less out in the world,  but before I buy elsewhere, I will g...
DIY speakers of solid/reclaimed wood?
There are a few technics to prevent expansion cracks. The most probable  easiest is to rip the wood into stips,  maybe 4 to 5 inches wide and regluing them to fairly well match wood grain.  These small strips do not expand like something that is s...
DIY speakers of solid/reclaimed wood?
That is a small speaker and the wood is thick enough with enough structure that warping won't be a problem.  A cabinet that small with front and backs attached will be fairly inert. I've built tons of speakers and even though I really don't use so...
Best Pc for audio?
Post is old and some things have changed. Mac is more consistent and performs well,  but I have found with a well rounded PC that it still slightly outperforms mac.  I am currently using a laptop with no extra programming dedicated to music, it ha...
Upgrade integrated within the $600 - 1k Range
Not alot of these around and they are getting a bit old, but the Audio Refinement Complete is a very nice integrated.... 50 watts to 8 and 90 watts to 4.
Used Amp Under $1000
I’m not familiar with the Emerald Physics, but of the others, the CJ and McCormack are the most neutral, smooth yet detailed performers. Also,  they are hard to find, but I'd recommend a Muse One Hundred Sixty.  Excellent for the buck.
Ribbon midrange pros and cons
@vinnydabully Not really sure why we refer to some form of Ribbons as not true ribbons, whether its an open (dipole)design or backed (which causes cancellation) or a folded ribbon (AMT), it seems to me that it is still a ribbon.  As far as strengt...
Ugrade-itis - is there a cure?
Upgrade-itis definitely has a cure.  You run out of money. Through the years,  a couple of times,  I've just worn myself out changing things,  often you find that a change is not an upgrade.
Should an amp have a "personality"?
Neutral, Natural,  what is it really.  I've had different amps with near identical frequency response,  yet one amp was fast, dynamic, while the other had flow & rhythm.  I've had others that sounded excellent with a perfectly flat speaker,  c...

Small drivers vs big drivers
A lot of general information here. first, you can make a small driver go below 20hz. We did it several times back in my old Marcof Electronic Days. We started with a 91db 8 inch peerless driver, when we were finished, this driver had an F3 of 19hz...
