What can beat Wilson XVX for less money?
It's definitely possible to beat the XVX if you are willing to invest in a dCS Vivaldi stack, Dan D'Agostino Relentless amps, Transparent audio Magnum Opus cables, and professional room treatments to go with those speakers.
The vanishing stereo rack
I'm hiding the racks of equipment in a room behind the front speakers in my new music room/theater and hiding the ATMOS and surround speakers.  I would have hid all the speakers if I could have done that without changing the sound for 2 channel so...
American Made Audio Products
Aren't most tubes made in Russia these days?
American Made Audio Products
Thank you so much!  I try to buy American made and this is very helpful and I found some new gear to check out.  I wonder why my favorite cable maker Transparent Audio didn't make the list?
Affordable vs. ultra expensive speakers - what's the difference?
I love the comparison with cars because nobody gives a second thought when a neighbor buys a $100k car, but if you admit that you spent that much on speakers they will freak!  Ironically, that's a speaker that you can go full out anytime you want ...
Totally overwhelmed (speakers under $5k)
I'm afraid you won't get the most out of a new set of speakers because of what you will be feeding them.  A stand alone DAC would sound much better than using one built into a surround sound receiver.  This could really clean up your sound enough ...
DIY Active Ground Box
It may be simpler to just plug all the equipment into the same wall outlets, and then you would have a better common ground.  Then you could add your DIY supplemental ground after that and not worry about adding a ground loop or causing a safety h...
your first system-
A Sony quadraphonic system that I purchased at a going out of business auction.  Sadly, it was when catalog sales put the last audio store in our town out of business.  I waited the entire auction with my mom for that system to go on the block.  I...
Advice needed on power cables, wall warts, conditioning, electrical outlet
Before buying power cables for individual equipment consider the power cable for your power conditioner.  The power for all the equipment plugged into the power conditioner is fed through that one power cable.  This is also the first thing that yo...
Can recommend some non-fatigue SMALL bookshelf for near-field listening?
The best nearfield speakers I’ve ever heard were Wilson Audio Tune Tots, but they are very expensive compared to most. I bought a pair after listening to them and I don’t usually care for the sound of small speakers. Harbeth is always a safe bet a...
Best speakers around $130k?
Wilson Audio Alexx V or used XVX speakers would be the best sounding for that price, but you can certainly find speakers that look more stylish where less money went into sound R&D and more went into style.
Dedicated 20 Amp Line for Audio
Audio gear is unique compared to the average appliance that the electrical system in your house was designed to accommodate a century ago.  The original pioneers in household electrical design were designing around predictable resistive loads like...
Desk top speakers at low cost
Have you considered a headphone system?  An AudioQuest USB DAC/headphone amp is affordable and sounds amazing with every model of Focal, Fostex, and Sennheiser headphones I've listened through.  You'll get more bang for buck and can put it all in ...
Wilson not delivering speakers as scheduled
Many companies that depend on chemicals can't guess when they will have the supplies needed to make their products.  Now try to make that guess when you also use several other building materials that are unpredictable.  Wilson builds some of the m...
