I tend to agree in it being taste..I had the HL Super 5 in my home for a week and couldn't live with them at all.I found them a touch boring..But many love them so you have to decide by hearing them live only .....

Chashas1 :I tried it couple ways with Brass cones( spikes ) and also BDR cones..Didn't like it either way..I had better success with a piece of Granite directly on the floor under speakers...Much crisper bass and better mids...Hey Maybe it just me...

I think it is most important to know which direction in sound you want to go with the new tubes...Many good tubes you could use but,would be nice to know if you want a warmer 12ax7/12at7 or a neutral sounding tube...Whole lot of difference between...

If your trying to save some good expensive tubes ,just pick up some cheap Sovteks ( or similar ) inexpensive tubes to replace the tubes you don't use..This way you don't risk damaging your piece and can save the tubes you need to save..
