Any piece of equipment you currently dream of ? @rivington66 The MX-110 is a C22 with a tuner in it, sounds the same and costs a tiny fraction of the C22 - I should know as I have owned both but presently only own the MX-110.
Any piece of equipment you currently dream of ? I hope to own a pair of KEF Blade or Blade 2 speakers on day.
Turntables currently considered top of the range. Do you know what they are ? I used to work for Audio Alternative in Lilburn GA and got to play with the Brinkmann 'tables extensively. The Bardo with 10" arm ($14k-17k) and Balance ($40,000) are both wonderful devices, I hope to buy a Bardo myself before I shuffle off this E...
Can we make major musical discoveries at age 50, 65, or 80? 90% of the music I listen to at age 61 is music I had never heard at age 50.
Single ended = large images? I for one love a slightly larger than reality stereo image - it drew me to the Dynaco Stereo 70 clones, and my old 10w Stromberg integrated amp, and Magnepan speakers. If you turn the volume a little lower than would be heard in real life by tho...
A brief review of GR Research Bully @moonwatcher - if you're at all interested in flat (accurate) frequency response and driver time alignment those JBL are a non-starter. I really do like how the new Klipsches and the JBL Classic look but (to these ears) they sound quite primitive...
Physically Comfortable Headphones @dtorc Try the Koss UR 40 titanium driver headphones. I have a pair I wear all day. They are slightly warmer than the Harman curve, so 6+ hours of listening daily won't make you deaf unless you are really careless. They're really cheap too, and ...
A brief review of GR Research Bully @moonwatcher Between Erin and Danny I think we have two truly useful and VERY accurate sources of analysis for this field of study. I love and follow both channels regularly.
New Speakers under consideration - but I’m afraid Ritter, today there are a wider variety of materials used for drivers. CAD has gotten far more sophisticated. And the biggest change you can make when swapping out speakers is to go for something with a wildly different design theory. Vandersteen...
CD Player: Vintage or modern ones? My best sounding CD playback has been from an SACD/DVD player, the Philips 963SA. Most other decks sound opaque compared to this one. $300 or less purchased used. I have also used a Pioneer Elite, which had good tone overall but sounded a little...
SACD Players I use McIntosh amplification (two systems) and settled on the Philips 963SA. I have found no flaws with the SACD playback, and my redbook cds have never, ever sounded better. Plus this deck is no more than $300 on the used market.
The Medical Explanation Of Why You Are Addicted To HiFi Audio I had one of those 'gotcha' moments over the weekend listening to two Prokofiev Concertos (Ashkenazy, on London Records) from seventies vinyl. Floor rattling, 70 foot wide soundstage excitement for 40 minutes.
Wanna take it to the next level? Buy MORE speakers! If I want SPLs I have four matching Vandersteen 2 in my living room. These are driven by a single McIntosh 2200 amplifier. The rear pair are wired in reverse polarity to the front pair. If I want laser-precise imaging and detail I have a pair of ...
Do any McIntosh preamps have non digital filter for bass and treble? I'll be not helpful and say that my 1962 era MX110 and 1976 era MX113 both have analog treble filters. The MX113 sounds very modern too, albeit w/o any digital inputs whatsoever.
