What's your source?
Tonearm cable cost no object
First, the original isn't too bad, is it? I use a Graham Engineering cable.
Tube failure -- what would happen in worst case?
Auto bias circuits can also fail.
Tube failure -- what would happen in worst case?
I think low signal tubes such as found in preamps and phono stages are probably okay.Power tubes are a somewhat different story. One failure mode is where the getter material which helps maintain the vacuum inside the tube gets used up. Then, the ...
Anybody own or hear the Wavestream linestage?
I have a complete Wavestream system. Phonoamp, linestage and V8 power amplifier. They stand with the best. Now, Brian has come up with a set of prototype stereo speakers. 400 pounds each, and very impressive but not available yet.
For Past & Present Sonus Faber Stradivari Owners
Well, since no one else has replied I will although not directly to the point. I heard the Strad's driven by a pair of Air Tight ATM-211 SET monoblocks with 22 wpc. One of the best systems I have heard. Plenty of precise, yet full, rich bass.I als...

The definitive "Time Out" Release
Yep. Classic Records got the 45rpm reissue right.
The everyday use of a tube amp
There must be an optimal answer to this question of leaving tubes on or off but I have never been confident I have found it. In the hay day of tubes the largest numbers were used for digital applications which are less sensitive to noise than are ...
Is analog & vinyl anoying? Is it worht it.
Comparing seedee's to vinyl...Vinyl has such a greater frequency response than redbook that it is really an unfair comparison.Since the emergence of SACD and DVD-A the gap has closed so recently-recorded music using these new digital formats has a...
Wadia 581i using as a pre any good
I have a Wadia 861xi. My experience is the same as yours: it looses coherence without a very good pre to match it with the rest of the system.
Can a direct CD to amp connection degrade sound?
Yep. Sometimes you can get luck and have a good impedance match. But generally, a good line stage is needed to achieve good sound.
Can we fit Dunlavy SC-VI in a samller room?
Sadly, Rives is right. I have the SC-IVa's in a 17'x30'x10' room placed on the long wall. Even for the IVa's it is recommended to be a least 10' from the speaker before all the frequencies (of the direct sound) come together spatially. My experien...
Interconnect - Does short length hinder sound?
For analog I have never heard any difference in the audio sound for interconnect lengths less than 3m (which is all I've experienced in a controlled setting). It is conceivable that there are circumstances where 60Hz or RF pickup is a problem and ...
What format are most people using, and why?
I have a question: How does one make "the perfect rip" and how does one know?Well, okay, maybe that's two questions. Anyway, I have been using EAC and AccuRip to rip seedees to WAV and then immediately to FLAC (erasing the intermediate WAV file). ...
