A decent set of beginner advice to care of vinyl
Vinyl records occupy a vastly different place in the world of 2009, Jaybo. The average "wiper" doesn't own records anymore. They are now the domain of the scrubbers. Cheers.
How to order Wally Tools...
Count me among those bewildered by Elizabeth's post. He might be quirky, or even flaky, but if he cashes your check and doesn't send you a product, I call him a thief. I should say that he has never taken my money. I offered it to him once via e-m...
MM Tube Phono for $1000
The EAR 834p will fit your budget. I believe the MM only version is around $1,000 new. Hard to do better at that price.Cheers.
Problem vith VPI Scout and Dynavector 20XH
Make sure the lemo connector is aligned and seated properly. Try reversing the cables at the junction box. See if the problem jumps to the other channel. Report back.Cheers.
VPI JMW setup
$110 for the mintLP protractor is a lot of money, but not so much when you consider the gear you are working with. I'm certainly no analog expert, but the mintLP was the first protractor I've used that didn't leave me wondering whether I really go...
Sumiko Blackbird
I had not heard of problems such as described by Islandmandan. I trust his experience was valid, and would say that very well might disqualify the Sumiko from your "Last Cartridge" search. By the way, cartridges wear out and need to be replaced ev...
Help Anti Static Brush creates MORE static
Even though it's an anti-static brush, the static generated by brushing has to go somewhere. Try two things and see if either help:1) Ground yourself. Touch something metal with your free hand while you brush the record.2) After brushing the recor...
Einstein Turntable's Choice vs EAR 834P + MC4
I once had, in addition to my EAR 834p, a far more expensive phono stage in my system. I don't have it anymore. The EAR was better. Ignore those who say "shame on you" for living with all those "colorations". These are the people who would have to...
Todd Rundgren Best of Lp's
I would definitely agree that TR is best heard on his original albums, rather than on compilations, because his records all have a coherent "feel" to them. I wouldn't necessarily call them "concept albums", although a few of them are.
converting ear834p to 220V
The last name is Singerman. You should be able to find his contact info by searching his name here.Cheers.
Record Sleeve Recommendation
I actually had the same problem with the Mofi Sleeves that Tom had with the Sleeve City sleeves. I but 100 of them, and about 20 of them were too narrow to hold a record. I bought the Acoustic Sounds Poly-lined sleeves after that.
Music Hall MMF-5.1 or Project RM-5SE
I had an MMF 5.1, and I thought it was a decent table. My daughter has it now, and I still hear it and enjoy it when I'm over at her house. I upgraded to a VPI Scoutmaster and there is no comparison whatsoever. Obviously, the VPI cost a lot more, ...
VPI Scoutmaster vs. Clearaudio Performance
An addendum... You mentioned that you've got the Graham Slee Era Gold V phono stage, which I've heard is very nice. I've never really heard anybody say that certain phono stages like to be mated with certain tables. But phono stages definitely lik...
VPI Scoutmaster vs. Clearaudio Performance
I have a Scoutmaster, and think it's a great table. I would say the Scoutmaster and the Clearaudio performance are in the same league. I could be happy with either one. I do, however, like the fact that VPI is here in the states. And they provide ...
Effective Arm Mass: What's the right way to guess?
The Hi-Fi news test record will work. Tracks 2 and 3 on side two have a frequency sweep from 20 to 5 Hz. The tonearm will start vibrating quite heavily at the resonant frequency.
