Comparing Bel Canto DAC2 and Birdland Odeon AG
Hello, I believe Audioengr is talking about a modification to the DAC to bypass the volume control. Correct? I haven't heard the Bel Canto DAC-2 (heard the DAC-1). You couldn't compare the DAC-1 to the Birdland. But back to the volume control... f...
Theta Compli FAQ
I have a question for Hfriedman. You said that you will use your unit for SACD/DVD-A when Theta has the module available for the Gen VIII. First question - do you know when that module will be available? Second question - won't the Compli need mod...
Theta Compli FAQ
I think it is a worth a call to Theta. The web site doesn't make much mention of their digital to analog phase inside the Compli. You are definitely on the right track knowing that you can get the best performance for your dollars if you go with a...
Do You Remember Your First CD Player?
NEC CD607E purchased in 1983. I remember playing it and trying so hard to convince myself that this was better than my records (because "they" told me it was). I didn't realize it until many years later, but that player gradually turned me off of ...
Another CD Player shopping question
My experience with Sony SACD matches most of what I've read, too. Fantastic with SACD. Very average with Red Book. Think about it, too. Which one company would most want to demonstrate the superiority of SACD in comparision to Red Book? I've heard...
?'s about quality of audiophile recordings
I've listened to the Rhino remasters of Elvis Costello and the Rounder remasters of Bruce Cockburn on CD and they blow away the original CD issues. I've not noticed much improvement with Mo-fi CDs, but some of their old LPs are amazing. The Beatle...
Should I add a DAC ?
I concur with the prior responses. Underneath the hood of many DACs is the same hardware that is in your CD player. You would have to spend goofy money to get an improvement worth writing home about. I think the $1200-1500 figure in the previous p...
Best tracks to "show off" your system
Any of the Bruce Cockburn re-issues on Rounder. They are fantastic.

Question from tube y newbie
So would it be safe to say that, as long as I can bring all the tubes into correct bias, a new single output tube should be just as good as a matched pair or quad? The age difference is still an issue, however.
Best 70+wattt tube amp under $2000 suggestions?
I'm in love with my Sonic Frontiers Power 1 (55 wpc) amplifier. The Power 2 and Power 3 can be found on the 'Gon for under $2000. I believe they are both around 110 wpc.
Freaked out about having a TT shipped
I think it is worth noting that the same companies who ship these fragile items to you also ship to the dealers. They don't handle shipments to businesses any differently than they handle shipments to homes. It's just another address. When evaluati...
autoswitching dac?
The Birdland Odeon Platinum may be close to what you are looking for.
Small tube amp for office suggestions?
Antique Sound Labs has a ton of stuff. I've heard some of it is very good, too. Check their website.
CD Changer, Carousel, oy HELP.
I think we audiophiles love the mom & pop brands and want to sneer at the giants, but do this... look at specifically the SACD players on sale at Audiogon for a month or so and you'll notice that the Sony's are the quickest to be marked as SOL...
