I appreciate the feedback. I have a 100 wpc ss amplifier powering speakers with 91 db sensitivity and the woofer having it's own class D amplifier. I was demoing a 150 wpc amp of the same brand and preferred the sound of the lower powered amp, eve...
Martin Logan woofer amplification
You have a point as the Montis may use the low pass filter to send the sub 400hz signal to the woofer
Why are so many people trying to sell Harbeths?
These speakers may have a nostalgic appeal to those who purchased their speakers in the 70's, and a 30 wpc Marantz Receiver was a high power unit. To charge this much for a box, wires, and to off the shelf drivers is pure commerce.
New Audio Research Reference 150 SE
This was at an Audio Research Dealer's secondary room. Don't know the dimensions, but size of an ordinary living room.
New Audio Research Reference 150 SE
I auditioned the Galileo 150 amp yesterday driving the Maggie 3.7's. The combination was heavenly. What really is impressive is that when I saw that the subwoofer was off, and all of that palpable bass was coming from the panels. The sound product...
Time to blast off from Rhea
I'm very happy with the rest of my system. Spectral electonics and cables into Martin Logan Montis speakers. It was only after the introduction of the LOMC cartridge that I needed a separate phono section since the Spectral preamp had limited gain....
ARC Ref phono stage.
I have the Aesthetix Rhea, and the sound is organic and wonderful. When the tubes are new, the noise level is tolerable considering 54 db of gain from the tubes. About 8 months in to use, the noise level between tracks is noticeable at the listeni...
ARC Ref phono stage.
The dealer doesn't let the reference products go out for demo. I've always enjoyed it there, and my TT, arm, and cartridge were purchased as a demo from the reference room, so my set up does do well with it. Anyway, market tanked last two days, so...
Spectral DMC10-12 phono stage gain
I own the Spectral DMC 12, and thought that it would provide the gain necessary for my Dynavector XV 1S cartridge. You are running at 12 oclock on the preamp, and you run out of headroom on strong passages.
Romulus CD player--
Just tried to make sense of Stereophile review of this product. It mentions CD's but then finishes the sentence about HD downloads. I had no sense of how it worked as a CDP. I use Aesthetix for my phono stage, so I would have been intrigued as to ...
martin logan vs magnepan sound
I have owned both the MG 3.6 and currently the ML Montis, with Audio Physic Avanti III in between. The Midrange of the maggies was incredible, however even with great wattage from Bryston amps, you can't get Bass from them and in the 90's, no subw...
Vandersteen Model 7: has anyone heard?
This is coming in late for you previous posters, but my experience with the Model 7 has been in the past few months. I haven't been impressed with he Quattro or the 5a previously regardless of the amplification. I have driven over 150 miles round ...
What is the Phono stage you have finished with?
Interesting how few Audio Research entries on this string. I purchased a RHEA signature demo, and initially wanted to return it due to noise. After replacing the tube set from Jim Mcshane, tube noise is noticeable only within a few inches from my ...
Rhea Signature vs. ARC PH-7
The Aesthetix Rhea does have the gain up to 70 db, but it is too noisy to use above 56 db of gain. 56 db from tubes is quite large. It is unusual that AR equiptment, that gets more tube amplification as you go up the food chain stays quiet. Perhap...
Rhea Signature vs. ARC PH-7
If you are happy with ar 7 stay there. I purchased a demo combination of VIP Aries dynavector tone arm and xv1s cartridge as an impulse. My phono section did not have the gain so I started on the phono section hunt. What I truly loved was the audi...
