Absolute top tier DAC for standard res Redbook CD
Aplhifi-usa, by "built-in attenuator" I assume you are speaking of a tiny device that controls volume rather than a pot. If so, in my experience such devices are nowhere near a quality pot. My BMC has such a device and sounds much superior when se...
Absolute top tier DAC for standard res Redbook CD
Roxy54, I really don't understand what you are saying, "I am also surprised that a transport was not being used at least as an alternative if not primary, since many don't use them any more." Should this not be either that a transport is being use...
High Fidelity Cables CT-1designed by Rick Schultz
Jazzonthehudson, IMHO only, I would buy one HFC Ultimate Reference Rhodium pc, your first choice. If you can use a RCA digital cable that would also fit into your budget. I would also buy at the top level. In my opinion each of the power cords that...
H-CAT DAC
After_hrs, yes they did make a dac. I had one, but it was not in the league of the K-12. I don't think many were made, perhaps as few as four.
Where for a tube-newb to start?
I've built kit amps and preamp, owned probably twenty different tube amps and probably even more tube preamps, and I have rolled many different tubes each with many manufacturers. Were I you, I would find out what tubes you have in there and go to...
Bypassing A Preamp With Volume Pot In Amp
C_avila1, you were right I had not read the entire thread. However, there was a time long ago that I tried passive preamps and even just pots mounted outboard. I decided that as pure as they sounded, they always had poor dynamics and bass. But ther...
Stillpoints and reference-level speakers
Larryi, in principle I agree with you but I only one time found a device where the Stillpoints don't improve the performance of a component. It was on a HB Cable Designs Acrylic PowerSlave. I used them on three turntables, five amps, four preamps,...
Bypassing A Preamp With Volume Pot In Amp
C_avila1, sorry I didn't mean to be insulting. What you were suggesting was to minimize interconnects and volume controls. Especially volume controls in my opinion are generally horrible. And while wiring within a metal box is much more immune to ...
Absolute top tier DAC for standard res Redbook CD
Mattnshilp, I'm sorry that my comment on the PureDac degenerated into this highjacking of the thread.Aplihifi, I do now better understand why I prefer native DSD as I explained to Kana813 above. I am soon to get a new server with two computers in ...
Absolute top tier DAC for standard res Redbook CD
Kana813, while the tape is long, he does explain well and the guys in the audience asked good questions. I now understand why I prefer native DSD to DOP. It is the computer being bothered to remove the header that is used to "fool" the computer or...
Stillpoints and reference-level speakers
Agear, generally when you hear people claiming to be scientists they really are engineers, who think we know everything about how nature works. I once was majoring in EE, when the discussion of Ohm's law came up. I was an undergraduate assistant i...
Stillpoints and reference-level speakers
Pkoegz, I think it is you who are buying into bull although I agree with you about StillPoints. The main purpose of points is increasing the foot pounds per square inch. Mass is hard to accelerate with vibrations. But the real issue is that everyt...
Bypassing A Preamp With Volume Pot In Amp
C_avila1, using your logic, a boom box is the best audio component.
Stillpoints and reference-level speakers
Pkoegz, whoever the guy is that you quote, he is clueless about resonance. Everything has one, and does dampen down to that point and then get wild through the point of resonance. So you can choose your poison.
Absolute top tier DAC for standard res Redbook CD
Aplhifi-usa, since I can hear a difference and prefer double DSD to DOP and am told by other pro designers that I should have expected this, I will continue to use double DSD and not use my BMC PureDac, at least in my main system.
