Amplifier Weight. A Factor?
There are new Red Dragon Minis that put out 125 watts in 8 ohms for $250 each. This is more wattage than I need, but given how great the 500 watters sound, I will probably buy a pair. Weight is to be announced but they will certainly be light weig...
845s: To biamp or not
Paul, there is no regulation on the power supply and it is just big enough. The caps on the outputs are of unknown origins. I agree that the build quality is okay, but the wiring, inputs and outputs, and circuit are obviously directed at cost cutt...
845s: To biamp or not
Paul, I would agree that an American counterpart to the Cybers would cost at least twice as much, but the parts, build quality, and basic circuit show shortcuts to allow the low price. I do like the sonics, however. The power supply is very simple ...
845s: To biamp or not
Paul, when I blew one of my Cyber 211s with a bad NOS tube, I approached the U.S. distributor to get a schematic. He said none was available. I sent them to a close friend who modifies gear for repair. Given what you were told by them, I am glad I...
845s: To biamp or not
Paulfolbrecht, yes Cyber rates them at 16 watts, but mine put out 20, and yes, you are right that this is trivial. All I can say is that as Enjoythemusic was right when they said the NOS tubes made a great difference, but wrong when they said the G...
845s: To biamp or not
Paulfolbrecht, I suspect that only you can say what you like. I had forgotten that the Enjoythemusic review used the Hyperions. If 20 watts with the 211s works with them, your 30 watts should be just fine. What do you mean that you blew a cap with ...
845s: To biamp or not
I have the Cyber 211s and use them full-range on my 93 db efficient Acapella LaCampanellas. The sound is exceptional and the 20 watts that the 211s put out work well.I have no idea what the efficiency of the Hyperions is, but I would suspect that ...
120V AC to 100V AC adapter:
There are 120 to 100 volt step down transformers. Some people use 100 volt units on 120 current with no ill effects. A friend's ac is typically 110 volts while mine is 124 volts. He could probably just plug it in. I cannot.
Can I clean my records manually?
Cjsmithmd, in the part of Texas where I live, the underground water has a high sodium content. We use a reverse osmosis filter on the water we drink. Some chemist friends say that they use such water as it is purer than distilled water. They thoug...
Can I clean my records manually?
Stltrains, I think there are great variations among the record cleaning machines also. I used a Nitty Griddy and later a VPI which I used for years. Then while stuck in the UK after 911, I heard and bought the Loricraft. I think the vacuum around ...
Summer Heat/Impact on System-Listening
I visited a friend with new speakers and amps. It was a hot day, and his voltage varied between 104 and 114 volts. The sound was very disappointing.Texas is not on either national grid. My voltage sticks with at most .5 volt differences at 124 vol...
Can I clean my records manually?
Of course you can clean records manually, but not well. There are many posts both on cleaning fluids and on various record cleaning machines.
Do Audiophiles blow speakers?
I have not blown a speaker in 45 years, but a ARC SP6 blew both of my Linn Isobarik speakers. This was the preamp that would turn off with low voltage and then turn on when it went higher emiting dc which fused both speakers. I will never buy anot...
Silver or copper fuses for amps and cdplayer ?
Sorry that I have been out of contact with the internet for two weeks.I certainly agree that 2xtreme has the right to express his opinion, but I think he is wrong to suggest that his opinion is worth 250 times that of others, in saying that he has...
ELP laser turntable - any comments?
Cjsmithmd, thanks for a cogent review. Your findings go along with the several auditions I have had with the ELP. I still remember vividly the Peggy Lee old recording that SMART played at the CES several years ago, which had been purchased in Vega...
