How close to the real thing?
Mikewerner, while I agree, this doesn't mean that one cannot get closer. I have heard speakers that are very easy to listen to but which are not at all realistic sounding.
The best speaker you ever heard?
Which of John's speakers was that?
Grand Prix versus Stillpoints
Marc777, basically I now have them everywhere. They are considerably more expensive than the SR MIGs, which are second best IMHO, but so much better than anything else in my experience that I just had to buy them. This includes the Symposium Rolle...
Grand Prix versus Stillpoints
Marc777, the same technology that is in the StillPoints Ultra SSs is in the new StillPoints Racks. It is a major improvement akin to that with the Ultras. As much as I like the SR MIGs, the SP Ultras are the best.

Kclone, the RS meter's A and C setting "The weighting switch allows for switching between the standard 'A' and 'C' weightings. Choosing the 'C' weighting will make the meter respond uniformly over the frequency range from 32 - 10,000 Hz, and the '...
What is the best phono preamp you have heard?
I've never had one in my room, but what I've heard at shows, suggests it is the Ypsilon VPS 100 with their MC20 stepup transformer. If I could afford it, I'd have it.

Argyro and Kclone, if we are purely talking about actual SPLs, which I hope, the human ear can be ruled out. If we are talking about what we hear, all bets are off.

Kclone, since you quantified this with sound pressure readings, I decided to check my listening levels with a Radio Shack sound pressure meter. I played several recordings of big band jazz cuts and symphonic cuts with what for me is loud levels. I...
When is digital going to get the soul of music?
I would like to describe my experiences the last several days. I am not bragging about my system, but I think I have the best sound that I have had in nearly 50 years at this. My digital uses an Apple Powerbook Pro running Pure Music on Hog and me...

Morganmadden, which model did you get? Send a picture. This thread has been very quiet recently. Congratulations! I certainly love my Contriva Discera SEs.I might add, that I have added a Zu Method subwoofer to my system and last night hear what i...
Synergistic New Tesla Line...Any comments?
Keithr, ironically I replaced an old Sound Applications outlet with the Teslaplex. I did notice improvement over several days in it but short of the eight days that 200 hours represents. I think the key to the Teslaplex and to their cheater plugs ...
Biggest Baddest Audio Cables
Homecinematronics, I not only had the Distech Platinum but also shotgunned it with multiple runs. I also made power cords out of it. I still have most of it somewhere. I don't think it is competitive anymore.Audioman58, I also had the Cerious cabl...

Sorry, Nsgarch, I simply thought I was reading "not golden ears."

Define "possessing normal hearing." What I am saying is that for those of your ilk, listening is not done.
computer isolation
I must admit that when I first thought to try putting my Mac server on and isolation rack, StillPoints, was that it would make no difference but that it was convenient. It made a big difference and has stayed there. Furthermore, more recently, I h...
