LTA Ultralinear Plus Integrated vs. Pass Labs XA25/EAR 868pl
@dodgealum interesting. I agree that the detail is there in spades. I don’t have much experience with tube power amps so I wasn’t really expecting this. How would you compare the bass of the two amps?

@jjss49 hey there. Pretty sure I’ve seen you over at the Spatial Circle on Audiocircle. Really sorry you couldn’t sort your treble issues out. After three years of ownership the M3 Sapphires only sound harsh when it’s on the recording, for example...
LTA Ultralinear Plus Integrated vs. Pass Labs XA25/EAR 868pl
@johnah5 both amps do tone and timbre well.  I’d give the nod to the LTA for simple acoustic music and solo vocals. On albums like Lady Blackbird’s Black Acid Soul, the ever so slightly lusher sound of the LTA makes it shine. On more complex music...
LTA Ultralinear Plus Integrated vs. Pass Labs XA25/EAR 868pl
@tksteingraber It just goes to show you that specs aren’t the whole story. With 50 w/ch the Z40+ should have had no problem with the Goldenear’s especially since they have a powered woofer. The UL is only 20 w/ch and probably would have failed eve...
LTA Ultralinear Plus Integrated vs. Pass Labs XA25/EAR 868pl
@tksteingraber the reason I was LTA-curious was because Spatial often pairs their speakers with them at shows. What speakers were you driving the Z40+ with?
Best investment; cartridge or line stage?
OP, what is it about the sound of your current setup that you would like to improve? I find that a clear objective greatly streamlines the decision-making process.
Battle of the Open Baffles
Glad to see there are more and more commercial OB choices available these days. I bought a pair of Spatial Audio M3 Sapphires three years ago (sadly, they are no longer available) and consider myself very lucky to own a pair. I actually can’t imag...
Humminguru record cleaner
@mapman agreed! It’s so easy to use that if one wanted to, you could clean every record before every play. It takes less than one side of a record to complete a cycle, so while you listen to a record, the other is cleaning and ready when the side ...
Humminguru record cleaner
@tomic601 cover one side in painter’s tape, clean record in first machine. Hope tape stays on during cleaning cycle! Remove tape, tape up cleaned side, clean in other machine. Remove tape, play both sides of record. Not perfect by any means but no...

@muzikat thanks for the feedback. No doubt the Degritter is a very nicely designed machine.

@muzikat ease of use aside, how well do each clean?
Humminguru record cleaner
@tablejockey Great! I hope you are as happy with the HG as I am.
Humminguru record cleaner
I’ve cleaned 300 records since getting my HG a year ago. RO tap water and six drops of Ilfotol wetting agent. Problem-free and a joy to use. SO much better than my previous vacuum RCM setup. NO need for additional rinse. I have enough invested in ...
SUT - electrical theory and practical experience
Thanks for the link and the commentary. I guess the first step is to borrow one that is ballpark the “right” one (I think windings ratio is the spec) and see if it wows me. I did try the Allnic SUT into an EAR 868pl MM input but was underwhelmed. ...
SUT - electrical theory and practical experience
Thanks Lew. Yes, there is a MM input. I wasn’t sure if the transformers in the Allnic were being used in the same role as a SUT plays. And yes, it is my understanding that Allnic hand builds the transformers and uses permalloy cores, which seem pr...
