popping noise when turning on amp/preamp
thanks. i thought of trying just what you suggested after i started the thread. using the cambridge as a preamp, i heard no buzz or popping. so i figured it was the bryston preamp.but then i decided to use the same interconnects i was using on the...
Is preamp remote volume a deal breaker for you?
deal breaker. i'd have to have a remote. i change volume often based on what song is playing.
active or passive preamp for active speakers
thanks again for the responses. almarg, i really appreciate your detailed reply. based on your reply i think it's safest to go with a non-passive preamp, especially if i want to use it in a different system down the line.now over to the preamp 'fo...
active or passive preamp for active speakers
thanks for the responses.i guess i don't understand the purpose of the preamp. since my active speakers don't have volume control, it seems the only thing i need a 'preamp' for is volume control, assuming at least that the signal coming for the cd...
Ia a good amp more important than a good DAC?
you guys are making me smile (from tin ear to tin ear)!
Ia a good amp more important than a good DAC?
all the trouble you're causing thomas :)i'm not surprised you heard little difference between the CA and the bryston. in a blinded test my money is on you, or anyone, not hearing any difference. IMO most 'sources', cd players in this case, over sa...
tape out = preout ???
yes it is an active sub.i talked with audiopluss services and they said not to use the tape out because, as folks above have indicated, you can't control the volume. they said to take the top off the amp (after unplugging and letting it sit over n...
problem with preouts on CA 840a v2
correction, it was not the 'tape in' jacks, it is the 'tape out' jacks that give me a signal. so, i guess i probably should be getting a signal from the tape out jacks, but maybe i shouldn't be attaching my subwoofer to these jacks? i still get no...
problem with preouts on CA 840a v2
i can now answer my own post. i tried connecting the sub to the tape-in inputs on the amp, which are right next to the preouts, and now i get sound out of the sub. so cambridge audio wired the thing wrong. next i'll have to test whether the preout...

Tips on Buying Quiet Quality sounding LP's
i agree with bob. when buying used vinyl at stores in my area, i can listen to the record with head phones. then i can at least gauge whether there is surface noise.

"Best" multichannel universal player right now?
i read a review that the oppo 83 can't fast forward on dvds--i.e. it does so incredibly slowly.is this true?
Denon DVD 2500 btci
does the Denon 2500 BTCI upsample dvd's? or is that something the avr would have to do? i'm wondering how dvd's look with this player, i.e. would the avr have to have both audio and video processing to work with this player?thanks.
phono preamp crackling
i promised i'd post a response once i figured out what was going on. i'm fairly sure i know where the cause of the crackling lies.first, some have speculated that i have noise in or around my system. there are no fluorescent lights nearby (at leas...
