Grado Sonata1 Ref Vs. Audio Technica AT33EV I'm currently using the same cartridge in my setup and the bass is fine (to me) I have the cartridge tipped slightly back so the arm is slightly below parallel with the platter. It it visibly tipped so I can see it that way from looking at it from...
New cables for Thorens TD 160 Make sure your cart is hooked up correctly as well. If the pins are wired incorrectly your music will be out of phase and sound quite unfocused. I cant recall if gain is affected as well. Good luck.
Replacing my old soda Sapphire: which clearaudio Get a quote on getting it refinished at an auto body shop, I recall seeing one in high gloss red and while it didn't float my boat the fit and finish looked great. I'm sure they could finish it in any color you like. Will likely be cheaper to do t...
Please Help Ambient Bass Resonance Check the ground between your tt and preamp. The signal seems to be from the platter from what you are saying. If you want to test it to confirm take a piece of wire connect it to the same preamp ground and touch your platter while the cartridge i...

My new Soundsmith Straingauge cartridge I would love to hear it on my et2 and sota.....someday, for now it's just me and my grado. It sounds great when I finally get a chance to listen, which isn't nearly as often as the doctor ordered. I'm willing to bet the farm the SG is in a differe...
My new Soundsmith Straingauge cartridge I don't own a SS SG , but I do know the difference eliminating a couple soldering joints makes between my turntable and preamp makes. I can only imagine what eliminating a circuit in my phono stage would do. If both normal phono stages and the SS ...
How good is a Mayware formula 4 tonearm ? I loved using a mayware formula iv with a grado sonata for quite some time, I rewired it with cardas eliminating the din and it made a huge difference over stock. There is likely a reason we don't see them for sale too much. Bill
Best cartridge options for around $200. Comet supply has the 103 for what you are looking to spend I believe. It takes awhile to break in ,keep that in mind as well.
has anyone had any problems w/ Jasmine phono LP2.0 While I haven't used them personally you can try calling American audiophile in lynbrook,ny 516.887.7530, they have a veteran repairman 40+ years in the business.
Broken cantilever Need options... So getting a cartridge repaired by vdh himself is more than likely not remotely possible, he charges a premium to use his name and the work is likely less than adequate for the price payed. Is that the general idea? My apologies for being ignorant...
new article inexpensive iso solution Great article Jim, can't imagine how many times you picked up the level (and turntable for that matter) for all the trials. Always good to hear a way to cut costs and completely eliminate a problem. If I do end up with a sub i'll certainly look in...
Broken cantilever Need options... Actually , I downloaded the faq pdf recently from vdh's site where he answered quite a few questions, many having to do with broken cartridges. He also spoke of the material he prefers to use, boron being his first choice for cantilevers. As far a...
Broken cantilever Need options... While I'm not familiar at all with his prices , I'm pretty sure that van den hul uses boron for cantilevers, the same material you had. It might be worth giving him a call , his work certainly speaks for itself as well. Just another option to try....
Need helps with hums, radio station in phono Just food for thought, isolation transformers work on the idea of induced voltage. First core is powered from your home the second core has its voltage induced keeping everything you plug into it seperate from the "dirty" power supplied to your ho... |
