Question about video scalers
I think Photon46' point may be that the substantially lower line count of standard definition format, when played back on a large screen high-definition TV means that things are chunky. You get the same problem with DVDs on ultra-large full high-d...
Distance/Screen SIze Formula?
Chadnliz, I wasn't suggesting that 107" is the "right" number, just a number that someone comes up with. OTOH, I don't think 60" at 12 feet is overkill. I have a 50" FPD at about the same distance and while it is larger than the previous 36" 4:3 T...
Distance/Screen SIze Formula?
I have seen several guidelines. The SMPTE (Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers) suggests HT installations should have a 30-degree viewing angle, but that is based on horizontal width. THX recommends 36 degrees. At 12' viewing distan...
Speakers to hang on to for LIFE
These Jadis Eurythmies have been in my system for a three years now and I have no desire to change. Are they the most accurate transducers out there? Almost certainly not. Do they make beautiful music? You betcha.
Marantz PM-84D owners manual needed/ Copy is fine
I check the Japanese language Marantz site and they don't seem to have manuals for old products they way some other mfrs do. FWIW, if you can't find someone who has one, the manuals show up on ebay from time to time at about $10-12 a pop.
Best 60" flat panel?
The (relatively) new full hi-def Panasonic 65" plasma is a real stunner. I have a Pioneer 50" plasma (Japanese model 505HDL). I haven't seen the 60" Pioneer (that Velo62 refers to) even though I am through that kind of store quite often for other ...
Hi Fi shop for phono cartridge in Tokyo?
How'd you get on? If you didn't manage to find one, let me know here and I'll call Miyakoshi-san at DynamicAudio in Shinjuku for you. He often has PhaseTech stuff of different sorts, both new and used, so should have a good idea of where to get one.
Hi Fi shop for phono cartridge in Tokyo?
I don't know of stores which sell the PhaseTech P3 off the top of my head but I can point you in the direction of a few which might. This thread has some directions to SACD speciality stores in the area but has some electronics references. I'd try ...
JADE AUDIO Cables
Thanks Chris. I'd heard some commentary was on the way by someone. I've got a pair of each on the way. Do you have Bybees or Gold Bybees on either of your pairs? Can anyone else comment?
3 arms, 3 cartridges, one table, match them up.
Ken,You've got mail.
3 arms, 3 cartridges, one table, match them up.
Thanks Kftool. One reason I got the idler (also a B12H) was their re-birth and the resulting proliferation of good-natured communities who would give free advice in a pinch! One place which redoes idler wheels is Turntable Basics (without knowledg...
Is Digital actually better than Analog?
Shadorne, I note your point on anechoic chambers. I have beeen in one once and it was wonderful, but the person I was with couldn't handle it for more than two minutes. My point was not that they are comfortable environments without appropriate re...
3 arms, 3 cartridges, one table, match them up.
Kftool, I apologize for the original short response. I actually remember looking at your DIY TT system posting a while back and am just now remembering what it was. Rauliruegas' post had not shown up when I posted. Given what I remember of your ef...
3 arms, 3 cartridges, one table, match them up.
Are you... 1) looking to keep one set of the three and return the other two? 2) looking for the best matching cart/arm combos for each of the three so you can mount all three in the best way?If #1, you might ping rauliruegas. If #2, why not try the...
Is Digital actually better than Analog?
Cheers to Gregm, a voice of reason. To those debating multi-channel and 2-channel, would it not depend entirely on the recording anyway? If I have a piano and a cello playing in a small room similar to the one I sit in, the instruments resemble th...
