LETS COMPARE TUBE AND SS AMPS. TECHNICAL
I would suggest some background reading.I would seek out the chapter on amplification in Robert Harley's "The Complete Guide to High End Audio" for a general and relatively easy-to-understand discussion on amplification and some of the differences...
Micro Max 282 vs. Exclusive EA-10
Thuchan,I have an EA-10 (on an Exclusive P10). I also have a Max237 (and would love to find the extra armwand to make it a 282 but the armwands are seriously expensive on the used market!). I would have said almost the same thing you did. The EA-1...
The Bad Plus - where to start?
I agree with the suggestions for "Vistas" and "Give". The live album is also OK. I saw one of the concerts recorded. I also agree with Grimace - the most fun a drummer can have with his clothes on...
Yamaha NS1000M Help, Advice, PLEASE
FWIW, they sound nice with J-FET-based amps too.

I agree with Metralla that stands are very important. I grew up with a pair (and my parents still use them and love them to this day, 30 years later) and still find that without the right stands, they suffer. I do not know about the grills either....
Suggested entry path into vinyl...
Koegz, I certainly did not mean "Don't Bother!" I completely agree with you when you say "Vinyl is more than just the music, it is a[sic] obsession, it is a hobby, it is involvement in the music, it is a conection[sic] to the music, it is an inves...
Suggested entry path into vinyl...
If you start with 0 LPs and 0 vinyl rig, right off the bat you have a decent-sized expense ahead of you. However, given the first sentence of your original post, the money (within reasonable limits) will not be the most "expensive" bit about jumpi...
Micro SX-8000 II or SZ-1
FM_login,I did look at the playback installations of some of you and I kind of confused what the hell you do in audio. Some of you have 5-6 turntables with 10-15 tonearms, which is a strong induction in my mind that a person can be disqualified to...
Micro SX-8000 II or SZ-1
FM_login,I am not sure I understand the "non-morphemic tone of Asian language" bit, and I am certainly unaware of how such might relate to "Japanese sound". Japanese language is structurally morphemic, and is not tonal in the way that Asian langua...
Speakers to hang on to for LIFE
John,Why do you hang your head in shame? It's obvious you loved your speakers... Were you doing something to the speaker you'd be ashamed if other people knew? :^)
Why is the price of new tonearms so high
Kirkus,I don't get your last comment (unless Mark's comment that effective mass = moment of inertia divided by square of effective length is wrong). If Mark's equation is right, the two could be different and still result in an identical third (ef...
Why is the price of new tonearms so high
Mark,Are you implying that in all situations where the effective mass or "inertial mass" (not sure which one you mean, or if you mean to say they are the same) is 25g, and the effective length is identical (let's just say that the combination of t...
Why is the price of new tonearms so high
D (and others),I can envisage the practical difficulties of applying dynamic balancing force onto a unipivot bearing. I can see similar problems if a magnetic bearing is not otherwise stabilized. However, if the thread/magnetic/hydraulic/whatever ...
Why is the price of new tonearms so high
Frank (Berlinta),Thanks for your detailed/clear explanation. Despite similar things being said earlier, it was quite clearly stated. Your comment about spring tension being altered based on record thickness is true for most short springs, but ther...
Why is the price of new tonearms so high
Because of many threads in the past, some now deleted, most of us know that in these analog threads there are two people who are much more alike than not... a) One person loves music, enjoys analog more than digital, has acquired a bunch of intere...
