Don Sachs 2 vs. deHavilland Ultraverve 3
4hannons, Thanks for trying to place these on a spectrum and giving greater context by including other preamps. I agree that we can’t represent such complex sounds by a number, but in the context of a lot of other details (like those you gave), ...
Gemme Audio Tanto Owners - User Manual?
yakbob, Thanks very much for the response!  My reasons for looking for a manual do include helpful hints on speaker positioning that may be specific to the Tantos (or Gemme line family). If you happen to remember anything of note, please let me k...
Don Sachs 2 vs. deHavilland Ultraverve 3
gotog, Thank you very much for your response. I appreciate the comments.I also like a black background with very low noise so it is nice to hear the deHavilland can provide that.Regarding point to point wiring, is the Sachs not point to point? ...
Don Sachs 2 vs. deHavilland Ultraverve 3
4hannons, THANK YOU very much for all the details! It is definitely helpful.I must admit I'm intrigued by your description of the Sachs.  Like you I'm big on dynamics and "punch".  OTOH, I do want some real tube sweetness and holigraphics, etc. ...
Don Sachs 2 vs. deHavilland Ultraverve 3
4hannons, Thank you very much for the possibility of an invite! Unfortunately, I live on the east coast so it’s too far to do at this time - but still much appreciated. Your impressions were interesting to read. What I gathered from your post...

Advice for Speakers to mate with McCormack DNA .5
Just writing to update and wind up this (now older) thread: I finally bought a new set of speakers - a set of Gemme Audio Tanto v1’s.  The speakers sound great, and although I still have a long way to go to complete my system, I am very happy wit...
Gemme Tanto v1 vs v2?
Nitewulf, thanks for another great response! I appreciate all the information. If anyone knows any other details or has any other comments about the differences it would be great to hear about it. Thanks again!
Gemme Tanto v1 vs v2?
Thanks very much for the comments, Nitewulf! I appreciate your response. Do you have any idea how the sloped baffle changes the sound signature? (Apologies if this is a newbie question.)  Also, regarding your v1’s, how strong are the bass a...
Gemme Tanto v1 vs v2?
So I can see from pictures that it appears that v2 has 2 sets of terminals, possibly for biwiring, while v1 does not. Obviously the cabinet shape is slightly different. But what about what's inside the cab - any chang in vflex design or components...
Why are low impedance speakers harder to drive than high impedance speakers
Al, THANK YOU very much! I truly appreciate your full, detailed response that also went to the heart of the issue. I think I am beginning to understand. It seems like the critical part (at least for me) is the following:   Put simply, it...
Why are low impedance speakers harder to drive than high impedance speakers
Thanks for the reply.  Could you please relate this to my 3 points above and the hose analogy as well?  I see the formula, but don't know how that applies to needing less signal for an amp that can produce more watts because there is less resistan...
Why are low impedance speakers harder to drive than high impedance speakers
Would it be possible to go back to the original question? This thread contains lots of great information, but I am still struggling with the basics. I apologize for this “newbie” request, but I'm clearly misunderstanding something and would be g...
