Music Servers - Baetis vs. Music Vault
Barrelchief- I can't compare, but I can tell you that I just traded my old MV for an Emerald and it knocked my socks off. Neal has been very easy to deal and his units are easy to upgrade. It's very quiet, plays and rips Hi-Rez and Redbook. I know...
small red lights flash on my Nakamichi PA-7
Schubert said:Are you related to Hugo Wolf, the one whose buried about 20 ft from Schubert? Why don't you just borrow over and ask good ol' Hugo yourself? ;-) Don't take offense, Schubert, I couldn't help myself. It's been a tough week and I'm gett...
Exemplary active nearfield speakers under $1k?
If you are looking used, NHT M00s should also be considered, at well under that $$. In fact, you could probably do a sub and a darn good DAC w the M00s for under $1K. That's what I have on my desktop. M00s, a passive attenuator, HRT DAC and a powe...
Question about shipping damage
I remember we had a brand new, heavy tube amp we needed to ship to a reviewer, and upon pickup, the petite FedEx driver proceeded to roll the box end over end to the truck I saw the UPS guy do the same with a turntable he was delivering to me!!!

Feedback through speakers
Unless the output of the HOMC is higher than the MM, I can't see that the output level of the new cart is an issue. Are you sure that it's feedback and not a low level ground loop which only becomes audible when you have the overall gain higher? I...
Good speakers to be placed close to rear wall
Highly recommend the clue. 2 pairs, stacked w the top pair upside down would be well w/in your budget and they are designed to be placed w/in 2" of the wall. Somebody even sells a stand that is specially designed to set them up that way. No relati...
Alt Country/Folk, American roots
A hundred thumbs up for the Matraca Berg recommendation. She's a very talented writer and singer who released a few albums years ago and then dropped out of the Nashville scene, for quite a while except for session work (check out her harmonies on...
New $35K pivoting tonearm
Not to beat a dead horse but when I questioned wood as a to earl material it was pointed out that metal also expands and contracts w temp change. Assuming (big jump) a competent designer I cools not agree more; it's all implementation. And design ...
Marc Cohn
Most highly recommended, for sure.
Are there guidlines to fix strange room acoustics?
Should I just move it into the unfinished basement with exposed concrete floors and exposed plastic lined insulation? Why not, it worked for me ;-)
Andy Kim - Needle Clinic
we are old farts... Guilty as charged.Hold the chicken salad... I knew that...Lorna Thayer not Karen Black...I didn't remember that...Guess I'm an old fart w C.R.A.F.T disease (Can't Remember A F'ing Thing). On topic- 2000 hrs seems very low for a...
Andy Kim - Needle Clinic
Neither, Bif. It's the kind of toast that Jack Nicholson told Karen Black to put between her knees in 5 Easy Pieces.

Basement flood damaged y gear
There are two issues here. First, your insurance has to cover flooding. Many policies do not. Mine paid for items damaged by a backed-up storm drain because I had a special rider. It would not have paid if items was damaged by flooding from surfac...
