need help Unpgrading from CAL Ikon MK II
Elinor- I would agree with the recommendation to try an outboard DAC. Due to the technology change, digital products have a very rapid depreciation, and you should be able to purchase very high quality stuff for 25-33% of retail. For example origi...
Does anyone's cable TV provider offer HDTV?
Anyone know if ATT's got a plan for HD in the northeast?
Need Help In Matching Preamp to My Moscode
Evelyn- If by passive line controller you mean a passive pre-amp (attenuator and input selector), then I would think about upgrading the speakers first and then going on to pre-map (active or passive). The pre-amps you mentioned both have their de...
How Do Odyssey Amps Stack Up To McCormack Amps.
The DNA-1 is NOT as good as the O.5. I have had both in my system. The Rev B and up are pretty amazing. Right now I am bi-amping Vandy 3Asigs with Rev B for the woofers and Rev A+ for the mid/tweets. Until I can raise the cash to upgrade the Rev B...
Anyone have modem problems with this site?
No problem for me, using ATT cable and RCA cable modem (new). If your modem is leased, ask your ISP to replace it.
HELP Electrocompaniet stole Christmas
Ern- glad to read you're feeling better. Maybe the re-surrected thread should be titled "How the distributor stole Christmas", although after carefully reading and thinking about the subject, this is a VERY complex issue. Be assured that I will do...
What to do next
I can only answer part of your question. The Monarchy DIP will take a co-ax or toslink input and output an AES/EBU or a co-ax digital signal to your DAC. I find it helpful in my set-up (CAL CL-10 to Classe' DAC-1) I am using it as a "de-jitterer",...
Electrocompaniet EMC-1: let's talk?
It seems to me that an "upgraded" rather than factory MKII or whatever, would in some ways be preferable, having been back to the factory where in all probability, any problems would have taken care of.
Which frieght company to use to move a 200 pound amp?
BAX Global shipped a 150 lb, 30" Loewe TV from CO to me in CT without any damage (in orig box which wasn't that great. Cant remember the cost, but it was about $125-$150, door to door.
HELP Electrocompaniet stole Christmas
Well, now we know the 2 sides to this story. It seems to me that those who say that EC (and the overall high-end community) needs a way to deal with the global used market) are correct. And SOS has certainly pointed out the distribution issues tha...
Attn: McCormack DNA 0.5 owners
I've never noticed a thump on the 3 DNAs I've owned (0.5s and 1); but then again I usually leave them on. BTW, go for the Rev B or higher; sound is dramatically improved in my system.
Help: Searching for Vandersteen-like speakers...
I would give a McCormack DNA 0.5 a try. Deluxe version should cost you around $6-700, Rev B upgrade about $200 more. Better sounding than the DNA-1. You can add another to bi-amp later if you want; OR try adding the 2WQ as an upgrade step. I used ...
KaBOOM And a room full of Smoke Help??
At the risk of sounding rude, first, try the owners manuals. They usually have hook up guides for typical systems. Robert Hartley has a book called something like "Guide to High-end Audio" which provides a glossary and lots of info. If you have sp...
Vandersteen users; do you biamp?
Joe- there really would be no comparison, as the sub provides an additional dimension, in addition to additional amplification. The quote from Richard Vandersteen, is, I am sure, referring to the fact that you will "free up" substantial power from...
Vandersteen users; do you biamp?
I agree with Bigtee, bi-amping absolutely not necessary, but recommended if you can swing it.
