Bryston SP2 vs Meridian 861 My current CD/DVD player is the Meridian 596 which can be plugged into the 861 nicely to produce some kind of a musical performance and the expected excellent surround sound quality. Or its 192-khz analog output can be plugged into an analog pream...
Bryston SP2 vs Meridian 861 The reason for my asking is that I would prefer having 1 preamp that does both music and movies. Yet I am an audiophile at heart, wanting to extract that extra drop of sound out of a musical piece. I can have separate components for music and for ...
Wireless Slim Devices Squeezebox performance Are saying that the SB3 needs to be modified by having its power supply replaced? I believe I hear something like that being offered by some outfit.
If you have a "kick booty" DAC, does the transport Gliderguider, doesn't the DAC convert the "1" and "0" into analog signal. Afterall DAC is digital-to-analog converter. I must be missing your point about the already analog signal from the transport to the DAC.
CD format war and resultant music players I do agree with you that music server will most likely be well received by the general public in the immediate future. Perhaps the current audiophile DAC manufacturers would adapt their DACs with proper hook up for the computer. There are differen...
CD format war and resultant music players The young technology is about hooking up your computer to a DAC at the audiophile level. If you don't know what to do with usb DAC because there is only a handful of products and comments out there, then there are plenty of standard DACs. But to h...
CD format war and resultant music players I finally look around on the Internet regarding music server versus CDP. It appears that usb DAC, with the included interest from Stereophile, performs at least at the level of the Linn Unidisk SC which is an upper but not top end CDP. I also sear...
CD format war and resultant music players The transport from the hard drive itself into your DAC involves a number of components--the hard drive cable, the motherboard, the soundcard, the I/O between the sound card and the DAC, and all sort of computer components that could general noises...
CD format war and resultant music players Well then, would somebody be willing to talk about where real audiophile equipment manufacturers are at with computerized music. I am not talking about mp3, ipod, or any mid-fi companies. I am talking about, if such exists, of people at the calibe...
CD format war and resultant music players The SACD & DVD-A market is essentially dead, thanks to our friends at Sony. The major difference between them and CDs is they have lots of memory space to store digital information. Well, somebody else would take advantage of the upcoming vide...
CD format war and resultant music players I certainly am not going to toss my CDs away either. It's just that all of the current equipment selections, from CD players to preamps, becomes rather pointless until this format war is over. So on one hand, who wants to spend serious money on eq...
What is the best redbook CD player for 6K to 8K? I bought enough equipment as store demos. At least the stuff I bought last several generations after their models were retired even. Perhaps if you go this route, you could get the real top end CD players and still are within budget. I am skeptica...
Naim CDS3/XPS2 vs Meridian 800 vs Linn Unidisk 1.1 I do listen to both classical and non-classical music. This does make it difficult to pick out stereo equipment. For pop/rock music, a number of people and now you also do seem to favor Naim for the liveliness, fast and forward presentation. For c...
Naim CDS3/XPS2 vs Meridian 800 vs Linn Unidisk 1.1 To get the mentioned desirable sound, is it right that you must hook the CDS3 with an Audionote DAC? Basically the Naim provides that serious kick and fast rhythm. While the Audionote rounds off the rough edges with its natural timbre, sweetness, ...
Naim CDS3/XPS2 vs Meridian 800 vs Linn Unidisk 1.1 It's too bad that I cannot conveniently hear these equipment for now. Yet from the purely financial angle, it seems to make sense that the CDS3 would have an edge. Both Linn and Meridian spend their effort not just on CD but the multichannel decod... |
