Conrad Johnson--Best used Model I am not quite sure buying a used CJ pre-amp is a worth even a mint one. What are you really getting for your money?? Most CJ pre-amps and line stages have no remote, headphone jack ( or amp) and no phono stage. Sure, if you want the purest s...
Recommnedations for moderately price balanced IC's, and adaptors to an RCA end Almarg, Thanks for the response. So far so good using BAT VK-200 hooked to the pre-out of the Sphinx integrated. I was playing the last LP of the "Mozart's Six Sonatas Dedicated to Haydn" played by the Quartetto Italiano on a the Philips label. ...
Are there used/mint balanced pre-amp with a few unblanced inputs under $2000?? To djohnson: The BAT VK-31 you indicated with remote and phono stage is gone. Strange because I was on AG yesterday, I did not see a listing for an BAT VK-31. This must have been the quickest sale in the history of AG. Thanks anyway for the head...
Are there used/mint balanced pre-amp with a few unblanced inputs under $2000?? Thanks to those who responded so far.To timlub., Thanks for the recommendations. I actually owned a Bel Canto Pre 3 about 4 years ago, and loved it, especially its finely calibrated remote control. It did not have a phono stage, or ( I think) hea...
Recommnedations for moderately price balanced IC's, and adaptors to an RCA end To Almarg, Mensch and those who responded: I bought the BAT VK-200 amp and hooked it up to the Rogue Sphinx integrated amp's variable output (pre-out) using a pair of Signal Audio Cables (that is, XLR male to RCA male). They supposedly take 50 hou...

What is more accurate: magnetic anti-skating, or barrel weight attached a fishline? To Stringreen. Thank you for heads up about the recording of Kuijken's performance of Vivaldi's "Four Seasons" I will have to check around possibly on Amazon and Discogs for the recording. I will assume if was an LP recording, not a CD.
What is more accurate: magnetic anti-skating, or barrel weight attached a fishline? To rauliruegas, Without a doubt, understanding anti-skating is much more complex that I had imagine. Almarg mentioned some of the points you make in his last response. I often wonder with all these mechanical and geometrical parameters if ana...
What is more accurate: magnetic anti-skating, or barrel weight attached a fishline? To Almarg, The 4th paragraph of your response is what I have generally read in various audio magazine including the out of print Stereo Review The order of my turntables has been Garrand SL95B, Thorens 160( actually borrowed from a friend whil...
What is more accurate: magnetic anti-skating, or barrel weight attached a fishline? Thanks to all the members who responded. I never expected such an impassioned discussion over the anti-skating used on many turntables. I believe one of the responders ask me what tables have I seen using the wire suspended anti-skating device. O...

Best pre-amp of the three: Copland CT-305, BATVK-31SE. or PS Audio's PCA-2 ?? I checked for BAT VK31SE pre-amp and could NOT find it on Audiogon and e-bay. BTW, the Copland was $1700, the BAT was approx. $1500. However, it was the PS Audio PCA-2 pre-amp (only) that was under $1000. I am not sure the seller ever relist...
Recommnedations for moderately price balanced IC's, and adaptors to an RCA end Al, Thank you for the corrections. I am sorry I misstated your previous comments. As you can see despite being involved in audio for 40 years, I am ignorant of this XLR technologyLet me clarify. a few mistaken points I mentioned before either on ...
Best pre-amp of the three: Copland CT-305, BATVK-31SE. or PS Audio's PCA-2 ?? Thank you for the tip about the BAT 31SE. Did you ever hear one or own one to have an opinion about its performance. If so, can you provide a brief description of its overall sound quality. Top end smoothness and great musicality are two importa... |
