For Rasberry PI - volumio.org
Thanks for the info. As a Linux enthusiast I've been wanting to get a Raspberry Pi to play with. This little project sounds interesting, though it seems like it's still in its infancy. The real question is what does this buy us over an iPod or Sque...
What music do you use to assess your system?
Jmcgrogan2, that's hysterical! Thanks for the link. Michael
Shocking 3D sound in 2 channel
I agree, to get this kind of presentation you need to have everything in the process working towards this goal. That means a good source recording, amplification, speakers, speaker placement, and appropriate speaker-room interaction. It's not just t...
tube buffers
If I had to generalize, your electronics are known for more of a "clean/detailed/dry" presentation rather than one that is "full/round/warm". If the latter is the sound that you prefer, then I would look at replacing one or more items in your elec...
$1500 for a whole system, budding audiophile
I fully support starting this hobby of enjoying music and good sound from a young age. Heck, by the time I was 7 I was the only person in the family who knew how to connect the different parts of my parents' stereo to play and record from various ...
Computer for Squeesbox Touch
Squeezeboxes are designed to be networked, so how quiet the computer is doesn't really matter (it can be in a completely different room, you just use WiFi or Ethernet to connect them).Classically, a Mac Mini is a typical choice where someone truly...
Wiring main panel box for dedicated 20amp line.
For the main panel, the ground and neutral tie into the same bar, so what you did is correct. For a sub panel, they go to different bus bars. Michael
Best qualified surround speakers for home theater
I would assume that the easiest solution is from a surround speaker from the same manufacturer as the L/R/C speakers. Ideally, it would be the same speaker as used in the fronts.I guess I don't fully understand what you're asking, so if that doesn...
Totem Sttaf
Your exactly square room might pose a significant challenge for you, and perhaps room treatments would be your best use of funds to improve things. That said, the Staafs can image very well (although the Arro's really are the imaging champs in Tote...
best mac mini option for external music drive?
A modern Mac mini has multiple connections that can be used for an external hard drive, including USB 3, FireWire 800, and Thunderbolt. They are all excellent options, although Thunderbolt has the highest theoretical throughput, although all will ...
Has the Oppo carried the AV industry?
I purchased my first Oppo player, a DV-983H DVD player, about 6 years ago. When I played a DVD, I saw a picture quality I had literally never seen before. The audio was decent, too, for a DVD player. It was built like a tank, had a responsive comp...
Questions about tweaking Squeezebox software
I dont't believe the Squeezebox hardware can natively decode AIFF like it can with FLAC or MP3, so it likely needs to get dynamically transcoded as FLAC to send to the Squeezebox. That's my speculation.
how to run a 230 volt line from my panel??
Europe uses 50 Hz current rather than 60 Hz in North America. I would assume that most transformers nowadays can handle both, but it would be worth confirming.Michael
USB to eSATA
If your music server has flash drive inputs, those should be USB. Simply plug your external HD into one of those, and if it recognizes the filesystem on the HD, you should be in business.Michael
