HiFi satisfaction and/ or Musical enjoyment Sounds more to me like you put together a poor sounding main audio system like many people do and you are now in lament. I didn’t do that. I have years changing equipment with the goals of removing edginess, graininess, sibilance, harshness ...
Spades vs. Banana plugs ?? @ghdprentice I’ve done many years of DIY using high end cables and connectors and had spades and bananas. Left bananas connectors long ago due to poorer sound quality. Bananas, particularly the ones that spin are, for sound quality, not great an...
Spades vs. Banana plugs ?? Good quality spades for best sound. Bananas for convenience but poor sound. The tight screw down compression of a spade is always better than loose banana slip in connection. Just don’t be a dummy and let the spades short/touch.
Do different speaker stands can really make a big sound improvement? If you have a mid fi audio system (seems most folks here do) speaker stands won’t make much difference. if you have an entry level or better high end audio system speaker stands can make significant difference.
McIntosh Sonus Faber love affair, alternatives? With the speakers you have I would suggest you also consider different amp/electronics. I know there is a fervent following of McIntosh electronics but compared to other electronics in the same price range Macintosh equip does not have the inn...
UPGRADE PATH FROM CHORD QUTEST You have an audio setup that will benefit greatly from good cables. You don’t list your cables. if they are mundane cables I would upgrade cables. You have a decent dac for your setup. try thecableco.com for cables. They will consult and let you...
Can hi-end cables benefit less expensive electronics? Your polish guy is right in that on high end audio system a cable upgrade can be just as significant in SQ improvement as a new amp or cartridge or other major component. On lesser mid fi audio equipment it may not help and may not be perceptible...
Have you noticed as your system improves? Yes…. This happens if one is making the right moves for system upgrades (components and cables). Better/improved equipment should mean more resolution and less noise. Lowered noise, particularly from better cables, allows one to listen and be...
I’m confused. Please explain. Don’t think knowing my equip will help you any. in general high end equipment tends to maintain consistent output across the entire frequency range as the volume goes up and It get tough (expensive) to do below 60hz bass if you want to play at co...
I’m confused. Please explain. Nope…. you have missed my point entirely. but no worries because I get your point and what you seek is easily found in mid-fi equipment. look for the amps that go to 11 😀.
I’m confused. Please explain. Your view is quite myopic. The idea here is not that ones audio system sound like a symphony. It is that ones audio system sounds like real unamplified voice and instruments that you would hear if live unamplified performers were performing in...
Comparison of various subwoofers for 2 channel audio I would drop SVS from your list unless you desire one note boom bass Instead add Rel to your list. As well as KEF, Golden Ear, B&W.
McIntosh tube upgrade - worthwhile? Tubes from different manufacturers each have a unique sound but the differences can be subtle and will be obvious to a careful listener when the audio equipment is high-end Tube swapping is very noticeable on high end equipment to a careful lis...
Which has a greater influence on sound quality, the amp or the preamp? Yes to both unless have a mid-fi or worse amp that will mask the change a preamp brings.
Non-fatiguing speakers in $10K range? For a non-fatigue audio system in your price range the components and cables will matter just as much as the speakers. in this price range most components and speakers covered by high-end mags perform well. It’s attention to cables that will keep... |
