Shhhhhh Don't tell my wife. Looking at B&W 802Ns Depends how YOU talk to THEM!Appears that your room is long enough for proper coherence of these drivers. Just make sure you don't sit in the nearfield...HER'S either for awhile! And NO, they don't sound AT ALL like 804s to me....have fun.(MY wife ...
Any Audio Grade Extension Cords??? I'm the mule who's assembling DIY PC Kits of Belden 83802 for folks for $32, or $69 assembled. I'll be glad to build you an extension cord using a fine Leviton Pro connectors (AC male and female...instead of IEC, eight?), for $3 more to cover the ...
What is the best speaker for a small room 10X11 I agree with forever above (and would like to apologize for my HD600 remark, as I know you have to live with this room....).I especially like the idea of using a moderate-sized, QUICK-woofered 2-way monitor, VERY carefully set up in a near-field a...
Box speakers that sound like Electrostats? Agree with Poorguy and Phasecorrect...I own the Spendor S3/1p (2 way vented 6.5" + 20mm), and find them ideal with their SC3 cousin center as a HT front trio. Quick and seemless. My favourite CHEAP more-analytical monitor, though, is the Revel M20...
"Neutral" speaker cable, around 200 used Oops!...didn't see the word "cables"!
Anyone bought Speakers from outside U.S.A.? Certainly makes sense to take a cheap, off-season flight to London to pick up Spendors VAT-free, for example. Or Harbeth, Quad, etc. Dealers can be convinced to give you 20% off, plus that nice -17.5% VAT yields a tidy savings.Have a nice trip!
Marble or Granite shelfs in a hifi rack? Mapleshade likes thick maple, although I suspect it has a signature too. I'd just use whatever's easiest and most attractive for you, and then plop Neuance iso/absorb shelves on 'em for perfect isolation. Birch plywood's usually nicely made, and w...
Single box player vs transport/dac I find it nice that Electrocompaniet continues to offer upgrades (new DAC, analogue parts mod) to its one-box players instead of forcing buyers to replace external DACs, etc., to keep up. Certainly more cost-effective, with outstanding results.
B&W 804's Vs. Vienna Acoustic Beethoven Cdc, your original tongue-in-cheek hit too many nails on their heads, as I keep running into musician after musician who, after stepping into mi-to-highend waters ALL complain about how UNnatural the Naulius' sound to them! Again, I WANTED to like...
neutrality vs. realism Onhwy, I bought a used GRACE 2ch Lunatec mic pre for $800, rather than two glitzy 101s. Glad I did: the small Lunatec velco's under the piano out of sight, its detented knobs are finger-friendly in the dark, and its TOTALLY silent.Get one used NOW...
neutrality vs. realism I've occasionally had esteemed, graying jazz musicians play live alongside my Steinway, between my Parsifal Encores.Mostly standup, acoustic guitar, voice, and violin.I'm impressed by the fact that I can REPRODUCE my piano by careful mic placement...
Review: Neuance Alpha & Beta shelf / Apollo Aria 455 rack Stand Bomba, yes, but the problem is that the air mattress allows horizontal jiggle, muddying up bass portrayal. No kidding....

B&W 804's Vs. Vienna Acoustic Beethoven Look, the 804 and 803 differ VASTLY in their spectral tilts. The 803N can work in a large room in free space, and perhaps quite nicely. Its splashy tweeter is anathema for HT, though....The 804N is REALLY anemic by comparison, and again, an afterth...
How long....Silver....How Long? What about that Sony's digititis, huh? |
