I admire Miles Davis, i admire Stravinsky; but i loved Chet Baker and Scriabin...You? What a rich discussion ! Thank you, frogman and mahgister, for offering your deeply-considered perspectives. I'm grateful for the opportunity to participate in such a dialogue. Thanks, frogman, for the clarification re: Miles and technique. Up un...
I admire Miles Davis, i admire Stravinsky; but i loved Chet Baker and Scriabin...You? mahgister: I felt, with that last post, I was going out on a limb somewhat to speak in such esoteric terms on an Audiogon forum and am glad it resonated with you. If you have the time and inclination, I'd be very interested to hear your thoughts...
I admire Miles Davis, i admire Stravinsky; but i loved Chet Baker and Scriabin...You? Yes; "taste" is indeed a mystery. I suspect, had we access to the entire spectrum of what we call a human being, we might have a better sense of what constitutes "taste". Music operates on multiple levels, some that are fairly evident and others...
I admire Miles Davis, i admire Stravinsky; but i loved Chet Baker and Scriabin...You? Very Interesting thread, even if it is somewhat "over my head"...I've repeatedly encountered the judgment in Jazz publications that Miles was not particularly accomplished, technically-- that his strength lay more in his ability to convey emotion...
Why so many angry audiophiles? Great thread! Some individual's self-esteem is apparently based to a large extent upon the degree to which they can feel superior to others.Certain posters on these forums seem to repeatedly initiate or become embroiled in conflicts with others tha...
Which speakers did you find bright, fatiguing or just disappointing in some way? B&W P5's. . . which I foolishly pared with Rotel components. Replacing the Rotel integrated with a Creek 5350 helped a little. The speakers might've sounded fine with tube gear. That was the last time I bought any audio gear based on how it so...
LSA110 Statement as possible replacment for Silverline SR17.5? soix: I may have to try a sub or two, although as I've said, I have very little available space. If I went that route, I'd prefer wireless, which would require taking the amp to Jeff Wells for modification. tweak1: thanks but unfortunately your su...
LSA110 Statement as possible replacment for Silverline SR17.5? The LSA's did offer deeper bass, which I liked but I've grown so accustomed to the low-mids of the Silverlines that by comparison the LSA's sounded rather "thin" to me, in my room. I know this aspect of the Silverlines has been attributed to cabin...
LSA110 Statement as possible replacment for Silverline SR17.5? soix: thanks for the tip. I've already ordered the LSA's.
LSA110 Statement as possible replacment for Silverline SR17.5? roxy54; for the sake of accuracy, I should point out that there's a 10% restocking fee + shipping, if speakers are returned.
LSA110 Statement as possible replacment for Silverline SR17.5? Yes, roxy54; I'm leaning in that direction. The only difference between the Signature and Statment models is the tweeter. The Statement has a beryllium tweeter while the Signature has a soft dome. I've read that berylliums are not fatiguing but w...
LSA110 Statement as possible replacment for Silverline SR17.5? soix: Since I really like my Silverlines (although the system could do with more bass) I was thinking the Supremes would give me the same sound, only "better". Perhaps this is a naive assumption. When I asked Alan Yun about the differences, he rep...
LSA110 Statement as possible replacment for Silverline SR17.5? 17 X 18 living room with a 17 X 10 dining room behind it, separated by a half-wall (5 feet high) and an adjoining entry on one side.
LSA110 Statement as possible replacment for Silverline SR17.5? Another speaker I'm wondering about in this regard is the Salk BMR.
LSA110 Statement as possible replacment for Silverline SR17.5? I was wondering whether the LSA's sub bass radiator might offer deeper, tighter bass. However, I read one review that mentioned the SBR might require more space between it and the back wall than other monitors and. I've only got 24" -- not sure th... |
