Directv music channel versus AM/FM Tuner ?
No tuners for me. As some others have said, I use the DTV XM Sat stuff for background music when I'm doing stuff around the house. Good for syncing upstairs/downstairs systems.
Recording Opinions Please
Thanks for the responses Bongofury (very thorough) and Buconero (concise). I was trying to figure out how to tell - ahead of time - if the CD production quality would be up to par prior to actually listening to certain music. Case in point: I have...
Please recommend a high-powered SS amp
Here's a previous thread that discusses a lot of power for not a lot of money (new):http://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/fr.pl?aamps&1170999828&read&keyw&zzbehringer
Warm copper speaker cables under $500 new
Another Gregg Straley Reality Cable convert here. Plenty of feedback and valuable information on A-gon and other sites. I got 'em and haven't looked back.
Those simpler times.....
I was thinking about this same thing lately. In the 70's I blew nearly all my summer job college money on my first upgrade ... went from a Denon one-box "component" set-up to a Marantz 1060 integrated, Thorens TT, and Advent speakers. Speaker wire...
Can you recommend any Speaker cables for my system?
Literally took months ordering, breaking in and auditioning speaker cables in the high performance to cost ratio category: Signal, Alpha-Core Goertz MI1, Speltz Anti-cable, Audio Art SC-5, Morrow Audio SP2, and Gregg Straley Reality Cables. For th...
really inexpensive power cords
I've had good experience with Signal Cable, with all 3 grades of Frank's power cords for everything in my system ... basic, digital, and premium with silver. Worth checking out.
Jazz artists for late starter.
Must everything degenerate into a p***ing contest? Alnolan, with all due respect ... I care. Guess that makes me a "hanger-oner and one that think the(sp) know". I thought we were here to contribute to the A-gon community. I am certainly grateful ...
Playback Designs MPS-5 CD/SACD Player
Dave, thanks for the very well written and thorough review ... great contribution. Won't be replacing my TRL modded Sony anytime soon. The MPS-5 is a bit too rich for my blood; but really appreciate Rava's "The Third Man" recommendation. Just orde...
Jazz artists for late starter.
Karelfd, your point about Joe Zawinul is very well taken. Oscar Peterson recently left this plane as well. So the same logic might also apply. But to weigh in further on the "dead or live" debate ... consider the ever shortening list of highly reg...
Favorite Multi Channel Amp?
Might want to take a look at Outlaw Audio. Had good experience with their amps in the past.
Jazz artists for late starter.
My apologies ... didn't notice that you DON'T care for vocalists. So a few more contemporary artists playing traditional "straight ahead" jazz: Terence Blanchard, John Faddis (has a very well-recorded, large ensemble, hybrid SACD entitled "Remembr...
Jazz artists for late starter.
Lots of all 'round good artists mentioned. Certainly can't go wrong with these many great jazz legends. But let's not forget a whole group of young lions who continue the tradition: trumpeters Roy Hargrove and Nicholas Payton, bassist Christian Mc...
Outlaw LFM -2 powered sub
Hieule5, the LFM-2 is a nice little sub. Very good value for the money. I use mine exclusively for movies. Otherwise, it's switched OFF. From my experience, and in my system ... not what I would call the most "musical".
Speaker wire upgrade??
Here's a second for Straley's Reality SC's. In my system they do everything well - top to bottom. After months of auditioning several brands - Signal, Audio Art, Speltz, and Morrow Audio - finally settled on the Straley's. Bottom line ... I don't ...
