TAS Recommended CD Tweak….
The last thing I pray for before going night night is the advent of a new audio magazine, "Double-Blind HiFi," dedicated to discovering whether people hear the differences they claim to hear. Silver vs. copper, wet cds vs. dry cds, 1k cables vs. $...
Anyone heard the Von Schweikert Unifield 3?
I'll just add a quick second to Fplanner's remarks. I purchased a pair of VR4 iii HSEs from a fellow Audiogoner two years ago, and have been especially impressed with combination of depth and control of the bass response. No question, there are lo...
Lifespan of Power amps
I have a Kenwood Supreme 700m, built in the early 70s, recapped, re-transistored, etc about two years ago.
Are upgraded power cables really worth the money?
"That is a very old question which has been answered many many times. Do some research."I took your advice, or perhaps I should say, followed your order, and discovered two things. 1)No blind test has ever shown that anyone has ever been able to d...
Are upgraded power cables really worth the money?
Here's a question from a skeptic on the issue of power cords. Given that your house is wired with standard residential wiring (extremely inexpensive stuff), and that that wiring comes at the very end of a line running from a power station located ...
Bass, Frequency response, Etc...Noob Question
This thread has got me thinking. I recently replaced my Kef Reference 3s (40Hz on the low end) with von Schweikert vr4 iii hse (20Hz on the low end). I listen to a fair amount of jazz, and the lowest note on an acoustic double bass is 41HZ or ther...

$1000 upgrade budget- cdp or speaker?
IMHO, the money spent on a CDP is likely to have the least effect on the sound of your system, the money on speakers the most.
spikes , cones or platforms?
Yes, trial and error. So that the trials don't break the bank due to absurd overpricing, you might check out International Equipment Components (google it) for inexpensive generic feet. To isolate my VR4s, I got eight leveler feet, added 1/4 inch ...
To biwire or not to biwire, that is the question??
I have bi-wired my VR4 HSE's and my Kef REference 3s and noticed no difference. Neither did my girlfriend :) I like the "idea" of bi-wiring, I have to admit.
Tube cdp with ss units...
When I added a Jolida 100a w/ the stock tubes to my ss system (restored Kenwood 700m and 700c, VS vr4 iii hse) the difference was detectable but quite small. Warmth? I'm not sure. When I began rolling tubes, some made the system sound even brighte...
Amplifiers:A Keeper for Life. Do you know of one ?
My 30-year-old Kenwood Supreme 700m and 700c, amp and preamp, recently recapped throughout.
Von Schweikert synergy
I'm using recapped Kenwood Supreme 700m and 700c from the mid-70s to power my VR4 HSE gen iiis. Could not be happier.
Best Audiophile Dealer in Greater Portland OR
In addition to what's been said, Fred's Sound of Music on Hawthorne has been a good place to do business.
Is KEF no longer relevant?
This will echo a lot of what's been said already, but the one pair of Kefs I owned, the Reference Threes, were terrific speakers. I replaced them with a pair of Von Schweikert VR4 HSE's, and the the VRs certainly have more dynamic range, the KEF's...
