Thiel Owners Thiels and Vandrsteens, having owned a few models from both manufacturers, sound similar in tonality, but the main difference in my experience is that Thiels are more dynamic and forceful. Perhaps they are less compressed? Vandersteens are more po...
Has anyone found a good way to listen to speakers on the used market before buying them? Realistically, for pre-owned, out of production speakers, the best you can do these days is to find reviews of the speakers and try to make sense of what the reviewer thought they heard, given their system context, and then make a decision based o...
The Science of Vinyl/Analog Setups Didn’t take long now did it?In analog, unlike digital, magnets or coils are moved relative to and through fields, not numbers. What's the resolution of a field? At least no worse than the size of the quarks, muons, gluons, higgs, electrons and ot...
The Science of Vinyl/Analog Setups The Science of Cables’ thread has, unsurprisingly and perhaps somewhat sadly, taken on a life of its own. The topic of cables touches very sensitive nerves in this industry/hobby and it seems most have a strong opinion about it. My hope is that in...
The Science of Vinyl/Analog Setups "...rarely are things discussed like wow, rumble, resonance, compliance, etc. Why is this? Why aren’t vinyl/analog setups discussed in terms of physical measurements very often?"I disagree. These features and specifications are very often discusse...
KT88 vs 6550 tubes Forgive me but, that was unwise. You need to ALWAYS adjust bias in a fixed bias circuit if you change tubes, let alone tube types. 6550 and KT88s are NOT swappable without doing this.Did the KT88 plates that blew the fuse turn cherry red by any ch...
Another "Help me choose my speakers" thread With your budget you should be able to find something satisfying. Thinking about putting my Vandersteen 1cs up for sale again...
Integrated under 1k (hopefully 500) for Wharfedale Dentons & Snell I wouldn't say too much warmth at all; just right. Those Dentons arent really worth very much on the used market, better to keep them for a rainy day or a gift I would think.
Integrated under 1k (hopefully 500) for Wharfedale Dentons & Snell For my bedroom system, I power a pair of Denton 80th anniversary speakers with an NAD326BEE integrated and the combination works very well. Nicely balanced, warm sound. Recommended!
What class of amplifier has the most high definition sound ? Please define "high definition." I have no idea what is meant by "pure sound."
Levels... I use a ratshack digital meter from my listening position, and, though I am very familiar with how loud it is, there is some music that I occasionally check to ensure I don't exceed a self-imposed 80 dB average SPL limit. That's plenty loud for me...
Audio Technica VM540ML v. N97xe Jico SAS Given that most 1 meter phono ICs connecting the turntable to the phono preamo will be about 100 pf, added to the Mani’s, the total 200 pf will be the capacitance load. If you look, some cartridge manufacturers will specify the optimal capacitance...
Beware of the cable claiming long burn in period. This thread reminds me of the netflix movie entitled Behind The Curve about flat earthers and their reluctance to acknowledge the results of their own experiments designed to disprove that the earth is a sphere. One question I would like answered i...
Vinyl***What If*** +2 for the Technics 1200GR and Nagaoka MP200; I have them and they make a great combination.
How much power is too much power. how about 20,000 watts Impossible. You cannot physically generate that much wattage from a 12V battery. Even 110 VAC has a physical limit of about 1500 W. Ain't marketing grand? |
