RMAF Anyone?
Yep. I was hooked on RMAF (and Patricia Barber) after that. Lucky I live in Denver!
RMAF Anyone?
Theo-I wish she would come back too! I remember Patricia Barber at what I think was the first or second RMAF. A bunch of us were crammed in an elavator going down to the first floor when we stop at a floor unrelated to the show. The door opens and...
What did you own in the 60's?
In 1969 I talked my Mom into buying me one of those all in one stereos from Korvette's in greater Chicagoland without my Dad knowing about it. I think it cost about $300. I thought it was great. Well, when my Dad found out about it he threw a fit ...
Mac C220 vs. Cary Audio SLP 98P
This is of interest to me as well. I have a C220 and just bought a Rocket 88R F1. The C220 has a lot of bang for the buck, but I am so impressed with the Cary that I'm seriously considering one of their preamps. I wonder how the phone stages would...
What speaker cables for vintage equipment
I think Lat International sells cables with spades suitable for older equipment.
Preamp with phono section
If you can stretch it a little bit, you might be able to score a McIntosh C220. They are a bargain for what the sometimes go for on the used market. Good luck!
Genalex Gold Lion EL84
I've no direct experience, but I've read good things about them and will probably be trying them in my Music Reference RM10 MK II.
Not happy with my refurbed MC225:
Unfortunately if you get another refurbished MC225, you'll probably end up in the same boat eventually due to their age and natural deterioration. Before you give up entirely on the MC225, I would recommend you first give it 30 - 60 days to break ...
Mac 6500 4ohm vs Mac 6900 driving 8 ohm speakers
The MA6900 has autoformers while the MA6500 does not. Some people swear by the Mac SS amps with autoformers as the Holy Grail. But I've read that direct comparisons between these two hasn't reflected much of a difference. I guess it all depends on...
Monitors For Near Field Low Volume Listening
Thanks for all of the suggestions! Time to do some research...
Monitors For Near Field Low Volume Listening
Anybody heard the Sterling LS3/5A speakers? How do they compare to the Rogers? They are around $2k new. Kind of a stretch, but.....
Monitors For Near Field Low Volume Listening
Yes, also maybe a Harbeth? But they are pretty pricey and also hard to find used. I've also been thinking about Reference 3A, Silverline SR17, Totem Model One Sig or a smaller Totem floor standing model.
Monitors For Near Field Low Volume Listening
The sub is one thing that I was going to try to avoid. Frankly, I don't know where I would put it! I'm very limited in options for placement of the gear and I also have a turntable on a table by my rack. I guess I could put a very small sub in the...
Record Cleaning Machine RCM
I like my Sota RCM. It has a fan like the more expensive VPI. But it is loud. I wear Stihl ear protection when I use it which I got at the hardware store. Nitty Gritty machines are good too if you don't clean too many records. But definitely get s...
Rega P3-24..........w/ Exact or Dynavector 10x5 ?
Can you listen to either or both cartridges first? It might not be in the same system but you might prefer one over the other. I think you would get an idea of their strengths and weaknesses. Other than that, you're going by others opinions.
