Sorbathane Pucks for VPI
I think I have some of the Sims, if they are the ones Audioquest use to handle. Let me know if interested. You could also try some of the sandwich isolators like the ones Mapleshade and others have.
Where can I buy Chinese SACD Music in Bay Area?
I don't know about the Bay area but May Audio imports some good ones if you can find one of their dealers.
What amplification is best for JMLab Mini Utopias
I am currently using the Mini Utopias with 2 REL Stadium subs. I have used several amps, mostly a Musical Fidelity M3 NuVista. Right now I am using a Magic hybrid tube preamp with Meridian 605s. Sources a VPI Aries ex. with all upgrades and 12.7 a...
Audio Research Sp-6a-Should it be modified?
I would upgrade the parts but leave the circuit the same. The caps are old and much better ones are now available. Resistors have also improved. I would stick to original values for both. Modifications to the original circuit will produce a differ...
Will Old MAC outperform Cambridge 640 Azur V2?
Try to hear the Mac in your system or a similar system before you buy. But if you really like the Mac sound then go with Mac, don't worry about other components. The beginning and end of wisdom in audio is to learn what sound WE prefer and to stic...
Sistrum and Maple
I myself am a Star Sound dealer and should have given a more complete explanation. The Star approach is to have the stand act as a CONDUCTOR for vibrations in order to drain them out of the system as quickly as possible. I find that this works ver...
Opinions/Advice on Eico HF-87?
Going with what you like is always good. They take me back to a different era. Look for a Dynaco Stereo 70, that was a better amp than either of the others.
Anyone using "jumper" cables?
The main cables carry the full signal to the woofer terminal. The jumpers transfer the mid and high signal to those units. The two crossovers are separate, hence the need for the jumpers. So since the bass signal will be removed by the crossover fo...
Sistrum and Maple
I actually tried this, I have a turntable shelf at the top of my Star Sound rack and I tried putting a Scoutmaster on a 3" maple board on Audio Points on top of the shelf but the table sounded better sitting directly on the shelf.
New caps for preamp?
Yes. 1.Caps are better now,2. price constraints on manufactures lead them to use lower quality ones, 3. time to change anyway for best quality, hard to hear gradual deterioration in sound.
Omnis with deep bass $2K
Shahinian is one that you should look at. Has a very good rep but a very low profile. I think the Compass is in the price range, may be a little higher but I am sure some of his fits the budget.
Anyone using "jumper" cables?
The speakers I use are the Spendor SP -1/2Es. I also use the Mapleshade jumpers, which work well and are cheap. I would not confine myself to the same brand or material necessarily , the jumpers have a different job to do than the main cables.
Opinions/Advice on Eico HF-87?
Eico, there is a blast from the past. Either of these amps will need , or already have undergone, a serious rebuild. They both should be capable of good sound but the level will depend on the parts quality used in updating them. I have heard rebui...
Anyone using "jumper" cables?
They make a lot of difference, I have tried many on my biwire speakers. It is just too expensive and inconvenient to use 2 runs of Golden Reference. The Cardas jumpers have worked best all round but silver jumpers have a different sound that you m...
Any experience with Tandberg Amps?
Not at all bad, I have had a 3026A for close to 20 years and am still using it as a bass amp. Very well built.
