In Memoriam: Bobby Palkovich of Merlin Music Swampwalker, your certainly entitled to your opinion but I think the post here including redsfan and my own we're in no way disrespectful or out of line. As a matter of fact, considering the amount of money some of his customers might be losing I ...
In Memoriam: Bobby Palkovich of Merlin Music I had a paid up order for a set of Master RC's that Bobby said he would ship 2 weeks ago and it didn't happen. I just placed a claim with PayPal but that could be a lost cause as well. While my possible loss of $385 is a lot to me that's small pot...
In Memoriam: Bobby Palkovich of Merlin Music So surreal, I am away on a business trip and my wife calls to tell me that a box arrived today from Merlin Music. This was the master RC's and replacement woofer I had been waiting on. Bobby sent them right before he passed away, wow.I was fully a...
In Memoriam: Bobby Palkovich of Merlin Music So very, very sad. I am a fairly new owner of Merlin speakers and had many conversations with Bobby before pulling the trigger on a pair of his new TSM monitors.I just recently spoke to him and ordered a master RC set up and a replacement woofer f...
Audible Illusion MA3 mod/upgrade? I have had my M3A for quite a number of years and it has been modified several times by Bob Backert of RHB Designs in Richboro, PA.Bob puts his own design circuits in which really open up the clarity and resolution of the unit. Go to his website t...
1990s speaker recommendation I picked up a pair of KLH model 6's for my vintage second system and they really sound good. I paid $165 and feel they are a steal for the sound quality they deliver.
Speakers for Vintage Marantz ? Plus other Qs I have a Marantz 2252 hooked up to vintage KLH model 6's which I picked up in outstanding condition for $165 and the sound is glorious. I have also used older Mirage speakers and they also sounded very nice.
Those of you having experience with Manley Shrimp I am a big fan of the DNA-1 and would think you will be very happy with it for a long time. If you can find a DNA-1 Deluxe they already have some factory upgrading done. I was very pleased with my 1 before upgrading to the 225 and I do hear a diff...
Those of you having experience with Manley Shrimp I second what Dwhitt says. I had a DNA-1 powering my 3.5 maggies with a tube preamp and the sound was outstanding. I have since moved up the McCormack foodchain and have a fully SMC modded DNA-225 powering them. Another great point is that Steve M...
Golden Tube amps I had a SE-100 hooked up to Magnepan 1.6 speakers and the sound was wonderful until the amp sparked and a flame shot out of it. I had it repaired and never used it again. They are very nice sounding amps but I would go for something like a Rogue o...
Anyone have experience w/Shelter 501 II? I was using the 501 II on my Scoutmaster and loved it. I have sinced move up the Shelter food chain to the 90x but you can't go wrong with the 501.
Whats the best power amp $1000. for Magnepan12s? I have been using McCormack amps with my Maggies and they really get the job done nicely. A DNA-1 would be in your budget and really make the 12's sing. I am using a fully modded DNA-225 with my 3.5's and couldn't be more pleased with the combo.
VPI Super Platter Installation I just replaced the platter on my Scoutmaster with the superplatter and it was quite easy and worthwhile. A expensive tweak put one you can hear the results from which in this hobby doesn't always happen. Luckly I had a big enough vise grips to ge...
Review: VPI Industries Scoutmaster with Signature arm Turntable I found it fairly stright forward to set up. I have invested in HAB strope disc to help fine tune it and also just got the SDS power conditioner which was a very nice and worthwhile upgrade.
Magnepan lover, which one do you choose? I had 1.6's and now have 3.5's and while I did have the problem described by hifiharv it can happen in any climate. You have to expect this to happen after many years of use and the fix can be handled by the owner if your fairly handy. I've done i... |
