Moving away from tubes. Is this a good idea?
Any of us tube freaks think you should go with tubes. There are a few Consonance integrated amps, with the sweet sounding EL 34s in your price range. I know that this is what I would do. If you go straight to ss, you'll not know what you're missin...
Tubes with different gain for Moscode 401HR
What I mean is that you cant use a 6 series with a 12 series in line - so if a 12AU7 is on the (LF) outside, another 12 series tube must be used on the HF (outside), (according to George) defeating the purpose of using the higher gain tube.I too h...
Tubes with different gain for Moscode 401HR
The solution may well be a Differential pre-amp, such as the Supratek Cabernet Dual, with different outputs and tubes to LF and HF. Yet more $$.........Problem with the 12AU7 on the outside means you cant use the higher gain 6DJ8 tube with it, so ...
Tubes with different gain for Moscode 401HR
I am currently using 6922s (6DJ8 - Amperex orange logo) for LFs and stock 6GUYs (+ 12AU7s next to them, so insides are 12s and outsides 6)for HFs and the sound is better than matching the 6922s for HF & LF.You are not bi-amping, are you, Tvad?
To tube, or not to tube, that is the question
Or, even better, the TAD Sig tubed 150 pre-amp - with a phono stage - $750 on A'gon. I owm one now - a terrific brtgain. But you're still spending $1500 rather than $500. On the other hand, you'll be getting really good sound.
To tube, or not to tube, that is the question
You cant. I figured ypu'd start with CD to see if you liked the sound and if you do, you can get a decent line-stage (Mapletree) for $400 and a Bellari phono pre-amp for $175.
To tube, or not to tube, that is the question
I've found just the amp for you on A'gon - a TAD-60 (I have owned them) which can be used as an integrated amp with one input - has a volume control. The sound, with EL 34 tubes, is tremendous. It's reliable, easy to use and is a real tube amp. Pa...
Speakers placed against back wall
AZ Adagios. Superb speakers and work well close to the wall.
Bi-amping mark-Daniel Maximus: Mind-blowing
Generic, strong, bi-tower, steel stands from AudioAdvisor (filled with sand to the top) - didn't fancy the the M-D stands.
Bi-amping mark-Daniel Maximus: Mind-blowing
BBChem, what you say is true. Both you and 6 Moons tipped me over to try them. They are an absolute revelation. I, too, have owned many speakers, including legendary ones, and, driven well and in the right location, I don't think I've ever heard s...
Bi-amping mark-Daniel Maximus: Mind-blowing
Jaybo, translate what you are talking about.
Front ported speakers recommendation
I had the same problem with $2-3K speakers in my office near to the front wall and settled on the AZ Adagios - great speakers! But the other contendes were Kitty Kat Revelators (www. Northacoustics) which have rave reviews next to the wall, Totem ...
Bi-amping mark-Daniel Maximus: Mind-blowing
Plato, those are excatly the 2 problems. I have mine 8 feet into the room. and can only have this luxury in my "play-room" - wife excluded - but one cannot do this very often (unfortuntaely)and the difference in sound between driving them single-a...
Bi-amping mark-Daniel Maximus: Mind-blowing
I have the AZ Adagios - they are indeed awesome. But very different from the M-D Maximus. They are superb speakers and can image close to the walls - coherent, refined, smooth, musical and realistic, whereas the M-Ds are like the Moscode 401 and th...
Silverline 17.5 vs JM Labs Focal Utopia Be
Thanks, Wenwaudio. Any idea if it will still image well close to the front wall? That's my big problem - placement - and reason for looking at speakers like the Totem Arro - although I hear that the Silverline is probably "richer" in the mid-range.
