Musical subwoofer under $2000
Thanks again for all the food for thought about what to consider. I’m going to research all your suggestions.
Musical subwoofer under $2000
Thanks for the feedback on looking at the SVS sb-2000 pro and going for two. As for musical I just meant I wasn’t looking for home theatre sound but just a sub for use with music, so not boomy or obvious apart from adding low end that isn’t fully ...
Willsenton R8 Tube Amp with REL Subwoofer
Thanks for responding. Since this post I've moved on setup wise and went to a new Pathos hybrid amplifier. Still not bought a subwoofer but think I definitely will. For me its less about getting a thumping bass but as you said filling in and gett...
After fifty years… amazing. What high end audio can be.
I think the Snoopy t-shirt my wife bought this 70 year old for Christmas says it all Be Happy, and it sounds (sic) that a lot of us older gentlemen are. Happy New Year to ghdprentice and you all.
Confession: I only like Norah Jones because so many others told me to
Norah Jones is what most musicians would consider the real deal, why? Excellent vocals and unique tone and timbre  Excellent songwriting  Excellent playing of various instruments particularly piano Excellent recordings of her material and ba...
DACs that do well without a preamp
For about $2,000 used you could get a Bel Canto 3.7. Very musical and I use it without a preamp with my tube amp (Willsenton R8). However, it doesn’t handle very hi res files or MQA.
Why does rock concert sound suck?
It has been a long time since I went to a big concert and ended up at Red Rocks and seeing The War On Drugs and support this week. The sound was  interesting. Lots of washy echo, clear yet layered guitars, keyboard synths and a bass so firm my mid...
Willsenton R8 Tube Amp with REL Subwoofer
Thanks to both of you for responding. I'm really agreeing with both of you. I think a more powerful amp will help drive the SF's better with more control and detail, but to do that probably means going the tube mono-block and pre-amp route. Right...

The room is large basement  - 29' x 25' widest about 14' up at the narrow end and low ceiling of mixed height of 7' to 7'9. I have the speakers set up at the narrower end and pulled out about 4' from the rear wall.
Dynaudio - Made in China vs Denmark
I’m constantly amazed by the frankly insane bias against MIC. Monitor Audio manufacture in China and produce superb speakers. Frankly I doubt you will find the made in Denmark speakers any better, probably worse! The iPhone in your pocket was made...

Energy speakers
At the top end of your budget ($5k) I'd look at Sonus Faber Sonetto VIII demo pair from. They are asking $4,999.00. I have bought from this dealer and they are reliable. https://salon1audio.com/product/sonus-faber-sonetto-v-new/
Most Realistic Recordings
Always love these types of threads for confirmation of some of my favorites and lots of new sounds to investigate. My suggestion for piano, and that I use as a test for my system, for piano dynamics, sustain, presence, plus generally for reproduct...
Blue Lights
The Canto 3.7 is available used at that price and the battery unit has a dim blue light. The main display is not blue, but only shows when you change volume or another setting, and is off the rest of the time. It’s also a great DAC.
The "British Invasion". A question for you old farts out there.
In the UK there were definitely cliques in the 60's that determined what music was acceptable - Mods, Rockers, Skinheads, Hippies, Folkies and others. There were all these little countercultures that dressed, wore their hair and used slang differe...
