Oil caps-any advise on sonics? Again thanks to everyone that responded. Awexler I'll give kirk a call. I replaced the caps in a LS7 I once had with Jensen caps and really heard a pleasing difference. Good listening!
From tubes to solid state I went back to SS to get the power I was missing from a tube amp I once owned(Anthem amp1). Upgraded the pre from a LS7 to a AES-3. The pwr amp is a Audible Illusions S120. A great combo. Tube rolling is fun but expensive. Now I only have two tube...
Oil caps-any advise on sonics? Thanks Dekay, I'll give it a read. I'm just trying to get as much out of this pre as possible.
the best SF-Line 2 tubes are they the Sovtek 6922? Most anyone who does tube rolling will tell you sovtek are not the best for SF or many others. There are many web sites, dealers, and Agon members who can steer you in the right direction. Good hunting!
Tube Pre amp or Solid Pre Amp I too like the tube pre/ss amp combo. I also agree with stehno. My suggestion is to audition a aes(cary) AE-3. This pre can come as a kit(if you are so inclined) or from the factory. It has upgrade features and it's a triode design. This as I have...
ss amps with variable input sensitivity I believe parasound made some earlier amps that had volume pots. Can't tell you anything about the sonics of those amps. Most of the earlier parasound gear are probably well built even with the pots.
What's your tube pre doing? Hi Wmcmanus, I have not heard the Bel Canto but I suppose the end result should match what I heard from the AE3. Of course I going with the fact that both are of the SET format.
What's your tube pre doing? Sean I don't know if I would call the AE3 warm. Full yes but I think in my rig the AR tends to be warm. Like I said I'm not kicking the LS7. It opened my ears to better sound that gave me a starting point. A audio dealer told me a long time ago: S...
What's your tube pre doing? Hey gang thanks for the input. I don't understand why companies who specialize in tube gear are not on this sonic bandwagon. It can't be cost. The AE3 is under a grand! Today is Sunday and alas my days with the AE3 are almost gone. I have my eye o...
Want speakers for 700 but none sound good. I will also mention the Meadowlark Kestrals. These spkrs are the sleepers of the hi end market imo. They are built well and placement is easy. I have mine in a loft and have had tube and ss on them. Great sound!
Your choice of EL34's So far all the tubes mentioned I have not heard. I do have a quad of Siemens,Teslas,Svetlanas, and Electo Harmonix. My amp is the Anthem amp1 which I consider neutral in sound. My thanks to all. Bret
Punchy power cord Try the Tekline cords. They come in different sizes but they have good bass and the mids are nice also. I currently use the Powersnakes sidewinder. To me this cord is more musical with my tube amp.
anyone done mods to amp, pre,or cd? I have ordered some Jensen paper in oil caps for my LS7. Got them through the Welbourne labs site. Been also thinking about upgrading the pwr cord but instead of a iec plug just ordering a cord with the ends bare and hardwire in place. Then again ...
Jena cables Hi Gladstone, I use the Gemini digital cable and like it alot. I have not tried their ic's. The Gemini is a well built cable with Cardas rca's and the first cable I have seen that uses two cables into the rca's vs the one that you normanly see. He...
Opinions needed; which is a better choice and why? Hey Meby, I have a seperate transport and dac. To me the logic is that each piece is doing what it was designed for. Hence a one box player depending on price MAY not equal seperates. I always see the PD65 advertised as a great transport yet it's ... |
