Prima Luna Integrated - EL34, KT88, KT150, Brimar AU - My experience
It's a Cambridge Audio CD player.  It's almost never used.  We listen almost exclusively to vinyl.  The few times it's used is to compare a CD recording to vinyl.

Yes, for a set of 8. The tube cage is a thing... but I had a buddy who has a machine shop make some "lifters" for the cage. They are about 1/2 inch tall, with a hole on top, and pin on the bottom. They lift the cage just enough to clear the tubes,...

@tablejockey I agree about the cost of the KT150s.  But, I do like them!  I would really like to hear the 6L6G, but don't want to buy any more tubes.  Maybe next year.  Anyway, I wanted to share that I found a set of new KT150s on eBay for about $...
Herron VTPH-2A Phono Preamp....anyone familiar?
I participated in a "shoot out" with the Herron, Allnic and Manley Chinook.  I think there were about 8 or 9 people there.  The only thing we changed was the Phono Preamp, and it was an otherwise excellent system.  They all sounded great!  But, th...
what is it in audio that you dislike most?
Pompous know-it-alls.
Any other lone audiophiles here?
Somewhat of a loner here. But, through AG, I’ve met a few good people, and we are occasionally getting together to talk systems and get to know each other. Hopefully they will become better friends over time... but Minnesota is a funny place for m...
I lied to my wife about the price of Stax 009S headphone
I think OP is looking for justification to lie to his wife and take advantage of her cleaning the kitchen.  Sorry, but I think you can do better.  Clean up after yourself, and tell your wife the truth.  Exaggerate with your buddies if you feel you...
Bang for Buck
Everyone is making all these recommendations without even knowing where he is starting.  Depending on what you have, and what you want to achieve will make a difference in what you do next.  So, you got new speakers... what are you trying to do next?
Should I keep the Turntable or sell it?
I would consider the Marantz TT 15S1 or a ClearAudio Concept.  Both are in the price range (if you find a used one), and very good performers. Also, have you tried to trade in the TT?  A place like Needle Doctor may take it in trade, since it's ne...
Should I keep the Turntable or sell it?
And I will add that my turntable is a JVC VL8 from the early 70s. It was top of the line then, and sounds fantastic now. Far better than the $1k ProJect RM5SE that I had before. And it’s a belt drive.  I have an AT ART9 on it and I will put this s...
Should I keep the Turntable or sell it?
Something that hasn’t been said is that you are measuring the Alva TT by its price. Yes, a $1700 TT should sound better. But your TT has more than just analog guts.  It has a DAC, Bluetooth, and a phono preamp, and a cart. So it’s really a $500 to...
Worth of current system
oldschool1948156 posts06-04-2019 8:39pmI'm retired on a fixed income, so that's it for me - except for a new DAC or integrated amp I'm saving for.@olschool, you made me laugh.  This made me think of Steve Martin in The Jerk.  Steve Martin:  Well I...
Am I considered to be a materialistic person?
Yes, as others have said. But at least it’s an obsession you can share with others. Almost everyone can listen with you and appreciate how great it makes their favorite artist sound. They may not understand the obsession but they can appreciate th...
What a sad world we now live in.......
It's about how they run their business.  In today's world, much of business is moving online.  So many retailers going out of business.  But, those who embrace an understand the new reality are doing well.  Best Buy, for example almost went the wa...
Tube Amps Watts vs SS amp
Wow, what a thread!  OP, there is a ton of misinformation here.  Read some articles by experts to get an answer to your question.  I'm not an expert but I do know that with a tube amp, it isn't about the wattage, it's about the output transformers...
