Cayin 9084d owners - Help!
Thanks freediver for responding; and apologies for delay to revert. My unit is a Mk 1. Each monoblock has a rocker switch with On/Off positions & an adjustment screw next to the 300B tube.  On the front panel, there is a meter marked in mA wi...
High quality in-wall UL-C2 rated 10-gauge A/C wiring ?
Not sure if my experience will help, but I recently moved to a new house and had a dedicated AC supply wired with this cable - https://mcru.co.uk/product/mcru-10mm-shielded-mains-spur-cable/?v=69e1aafeccc5In my previous place, I also had a dedicat...
Audio Note Japan vs Audio Note UK--Comments?
Do a search on AA for 'Dear friends of Audio Note Japan' to get the other side's version of the matter. Having worked in the U.K. for a Japanese audio company in the late '70s and being aware of the shenanigans that went on in the relatively small...
What is the best power cord for pass labs xa100.5?
I have been using a pair of Virtual Dynamics Master power cables with my XA100.5s from when I bought them. I have tried a few other cables but while a couple of cables better the Masters for top end clarity, none so far can beat the Masters for it...
Krell FPB vs Plinius SA-103 vs Pass Labs XA60.5
Thanks guys for all the comments & advise.Chuck, I will look into the Spectron, which I think is a class D amp? I have to say my first audition of a class D amp (a Linn) was not so favourable; the sound was clean & clear but a bit sterile....
Krell FPB vs Plinius SA-103 vs Pass Labs XA60.5
Chuck, many thanks for your input.I really do not think the congestion is due to the amp. running out of steam. The FPB300c is rated at 300 watts steady state but is likely to be a lot more when playing music. And as you said, the VR-33s are 90dB ...
Need advice on preamps for Krell FPB, Elipsa
In my case, I used Krell pre-amps - KRC & KRC-HR - with Krell power amps - KSA150 then FPB300c for many years. While sound was powerful and dynamic and bass was punchy and solid, I always felt I missed a bit of mid-range and upper bass richnes...
Crisp sounding tubes for Modwright 5400ES
Thought you might be interested to know that after I swopped out my Mullard 5AR4 for the stock Ruby rectifier which my Modwright was supplied with, the frequency balance in my system returned. I then bought a Create 5AR4 (living in Hong Kong, I go...
Crisp sounding tubes for Modwright 5400ES
Many thanks Wig for this; it sounds like the Create 5AR4 is just the ticket for me, as what I want is to trade some mid-range richness for some more crispness at the top end. Can I ask where did you got this tube? I also agree with you that swoppi...
Crisp sounding tubes for Modwright 5400ES
Hey guys, really appreciate all your help here. It looks like the first thing I should try is to swop out the Mullard 5AR4; then maybe try some other output tubes, maybe the GEs.As for my cables, I'm using a Lessloss DFPC power cord for the 5400ES...
Crisp sounding tubes for Modwright 5400ES
Thanks to all of you for your advise. One thing I neglected to say was that I had already switched to using a Mullard 5AR4 and Sylvania 6sn7 GTBs; sorry for that. I had read elsewhere in Audiogon forums that the Mullard can be a bit 'overly-sweet'...
Does Aesthetix calypso match with Krell 200s pow?
I ran a KRC-HR with a Krell FPB300c driving Von Schweikert VR4jr speakers for many years and was quite happy (back then) except when listening at high levels with sharper sounding CDs when the sound was just too strident. I changed to a CD player ...
Ideal preamp for Krell FPB 200
One other suggestion, an Aesthetix Calypso; a combo I am using in my system, with an FPB300c power amp. This works extremely well together giving just the right balance of warmth in the mid-range, rich mid bass and retaining excellent resolution a...
Interfacing Speakers & Stands
I used to use what we in the U.K. call Blu-tack, a pliable putty material similar to plasticine, between the speaker base & the stand. But since discovering Herbie's range of wonderful products, I've used their Big Fat Dots which improves on B...
Any experience with Eichmann "Toppers"?
I have tried toppers on top of components and speakers in my mid price system. The effect is very subtle when used on top of components and I ended up using them on top of the speakers, where they seem to make the mid range sound richer, especiall...
