MM phono preamp upgrade for $1000? Build a Pass Pearl II. You can do it. Nelson says the happiest audiophiles he knows are the DIYers.
Record Cleaning Machine – Recommendation Please! I'm glad that the switch problem was resolved. I'd like to chime in and say I really like my VPI Cyclone. It's probably a tad overpriced for what it is, but it does the job with no fuss.
Upgrading from Large Advents? I've been wanting to try stacking for a while, but CL has been slim pickins' lately. Thank you for encouraging me to go that route, as that really does make sense, given that I like the house sound.
Nad c 162 £40 is equivalent to $60 these days. That would be a bona fide steal if the preamp is up to spec. Yes, the C 162 has an very good phono section, both MM and MC (though I always preferred using a step up transformer when I was using a MC cartridge)...
Best short-lived band? Rockpile wasn't bad.
Ideas for budget audiophiles +1 on the Hifimediy Sabre USB DAC. It's a great-sounding DAC, price be damned.
Best Jazz pianist Emperor Joseph II said "too many notes," not Salieri. And I'd certainly argue that Mozart's "too many notes" deflates Elizabeth's argument. Anyway, Art Tatum and Buddy Powell for me.
Decent preamp to match my modest system? Thanks. I've considered both of those options. A new Mapletree phono preamp is likely my next purchase.
Attn Vinyl lovers - what CD Player do you use? Squeezebox Touch > VALAB "NOS USB Re-Clock". I swapped out the output caps and that helped quite a bit.

Closest DAC to Vinyl Sound? I have the six-TDA1543-chip VALAB--for $200 it's a steal. Solder in better output caps if you feel like experimenting. I back away from any claims about it approaching vinyl in sound signature. It just makes good music and I like listening to it.
Squeezebox internet radio I find the Linn classical station a bit off-putting because it seems to consist of broadcasts of short snippets (possibly for Linn dealers to demo their gear?). Dunno about Linn's other stations. AVRO Netherlands does 256 kb/s, but the music often...

How a turntable is like a gym membership I'm 53. Obviously I started with vinyl. In the early '90s I gave away or sold off my vinyl gear and records. A friend convinced me to get back into it two years ago, and while turntables, MM/MC cartridges, phono pres, etc., have their charms, I fo... |
