Why the hate for mcintosh amps?
I am by no means a McIntosh hater. If people like how they sound and represent a good resale value in case you want to get rid of them, more power to you.I put them (maybe mistakenly) in the same category with the old B&O stuff. Cool looking, ...
Why the hate for mcintosh amps?
There is a market for everything….I bet all stereo manufacturers sales are way up with people staying home during the pandemic, assuming they can meet the demand. A rising tide lifts all boats. Some people have to have blue meters, regardless of SQ...
Turntable versus tonearm versus cartridge: which is MOST important?
$500 cartridge on a $10K table. Not even close. Trolling question.
You can go home again
Music - absolutely, although tastes have expanded a bit and a few bands are reduced significantly in the record rotation. Stereo - definitely not. Every time I make an improvement (or especially when I moved), I wish I could have always heard some...
Why the hate for mcintosh amps?
Rolexes are jewelry and it is ridiculous to compare McIntosh to Rolex unless you never intend to play it. The most accurate timepieces are quartz, but they don't have a sweeping second hand. I prefer that but realize it may lose a minute or two a ...
You own a store, you sell 2 brands, which?
KEF and Rega, although you need cables. OK van den Hul.
SUT Advice - Which Ones Are The Best?
If the phono stage has gain settings up to 60 or 65DB in addition to impedence selections for cartridge flexibility, why do you need an SUT? It would seem logical that more connectors introduce more distortion. If you are talking about an SUT inste...
Poor Customer Service
Sutherland phono stages - incredible support by Ron Sutherland (answers the phone himeself) who spent over an hour talking about a power supply upgrade for $350 and then guided me through the installation of the board. He said he is honored to hav...
why do so many discussions turn contentious?
I have learned a lot from this site in the past few years, much of which has enabled me to improve the sound of my system for far less $$ than swapping out boxes, which may or may not improve my sound. In decades of stereo enjoyment these improvem...
A turntable that plays all types of music well
@motorcyclphil - the question isn’t whether improvements in the turntable sound better or not- of course they do, and especially Linn is known for options, almost, but not quite like Porsche. It was whether turntables play different kinds of music...
A turntable that plays all types of music well
Ridiculous question. I like @millercarbon's comment....but he forgot that you have to adjust the VTA when you change cartridges.....and don't forget to clean the record for an hour on your Degritter.
Turntable Decision
Has anyone heard the new entry level SME? SME seems to be the holy grail for a lot of vinylistas.
Porsche
@millercarbon  - you have your purists and then you have your track junkies and all their exhausts, suspension and engine mods. The thing is, everyone is interested in all of the models and years (except SUVs) and appreciates the differences and e...
Porsche
I was just at a local PCA Wash 'n Shine event on Tuesday night at a nice local winery and we had a huge turnout. Bigger than I can ever remember for this event, and it wasn't even in a good Spring month where we can get lots of daylight - couldn't...
Boy, Oh Boy! Towshend!
I don’t have First Circle. Not sure why I never heard much about it. Sounds like you’d recommend I get that before Side eye NYC. Now let’s see how hard it is to find it on new vinyl.
