Question for DIY people: Butcher block shelving?? I am somewhere in the middle with the above comments, having experimented with the very product you have under consideration. No, it's not maple, it's beech, but it ain't cheap beech, it's heavy and solid - try drilling through it. The idea of sev...

Preamp Deal of the Century Good deal Mc5baby! It sounds great out of the box, but get a couple of hundred hours on it before rolling tubes. I've had mine since late november, and it is still getting better. The phono stage in the Chenin is world class IMHO.
Marshall Tucker Re-masters I'm still playing the Capricorn Vinyl releases of WWAB, Searching For A Rainbow, Long Hard Ride. No complaints here.

Brought to you by Simmons Whew, there for a minute, when I saw the title of your thread, I thought it was going to be about Richard Simmons. Perhaps an audiophile reissue of "sweatin' to the oldies" ;)
Equipment that has made you 'stop' looking? Magnepan 3.6R driven by Wolcott P220 mono amps. This combination seems to get everything right in my listening room and with the genre I listen to most, Classical and jazz vinyl.

Whats on your turntable tonight? Getting an early start on a rainy Saturday in the East:Roger Waters "Radio KAOS" (Columbia 40795) Interesting work. A bit of a spill over from some of "The Wall" in that Waters continues to explore the numbing effects of the media, in particular r...
What are the characteristics quality recordings? Rushton has hit it spot on! My listening biases are oriented as his are toward classical and jazz vinyl. Music that is well recorded, that preserves the space and natural harmonic overtones of the performance, dynamic swings, and the leading edge ...
Should you use cleaner on your stylus? Another vote for Mr. Clean and the coarse bristle artist brush with the handle cut down.I have no experience with Zerodust, but have used the Extremephono. Got sick of the goo leaking out of the container and getting all over everything. Magic Era...
Where is Your Turntable? Mine is centered on the side wall to the left of the speakers as you are facing them. Two racks: One for the table/Walker Motor Controller, and on for the pre-amp and it's power supply. This requires a 26 ft run of IC's between the preamp and the ... |
