Girl diagnoses & solves mechanical problem
Hope you got the phase right!!! This messed me up when the midrange from my B&W center channel came undone during shipping... little did I know that in England brown is positive and blue is neutral... or is it the other way around... I forget....
do i need a prog dvd player for my sharp 9000
I would get a scalar before I spend a lot of money on a progressive scan DVD player. If you are looking to spend little money, stick with the 7700 as a poorly implemented progressive scan player will be bested by your 7700.
Which AV processors have an analog pass-thru?
I guess my viewpoint is that if you are concerned about audio quality, you shouldn't be wiring your system this way. You should run the 2-channel output of your processor into an input on your preamp or a processor loop if available before running...
Which AV processors have an analog pass-thru?
I am confused why you would need this... why wouldn't you just plug the source into the preamp directly? I cannot think of an analog source that you would want to share between an AV processor and a preamp.
Granite under your amp???
I had an extra slab of 1" granite laying around from my kitchen so I did a little experiment... I placed it on top of my turntable stand with 4 Michell Engineering cones underneath it... and then my Gyro Dec on top... and it was the cheapest impro...
Need Advice on Surround Speakers for my System...
You will be disappointed with the DS6... it isn't a full range speaker (rolls off at around 16k). I tried it out and returned it. You might want to consider the SCM1. It is the Nautilus replacement of the SCM8 which matched the Matrix 800 series. ...
B&W Nautilus 803's versus 804's and 802's
I second Sugarbie... the REL is quite "friendly" and is one of the few subs that I really like in this world. The Storm goes great with my Sig 30s which have little in the way of low bass. Also keep in mind that the 801 and 802 are power hungry an...
Best CD-R Recorder--Tascam, HHB, Marantz, Sony???
Avoid any of the consumer machines as these use consumer CD-Rs which are less readily available, I have found to be a lower quality sounding disc, and also don't tend to make as good of a disc. Most consumer machines usually focus more on flashy f...
Plasma speakers anyone with info?
The only plasma speaker I ever heard about turned out to have ozone emission problems and was making people ill if they were in a closed room with them... but I cannot remember the name of the company as this was around 10 years ago...
would it be a huge mistake?
Well, it would be a lot less complicated if the parts were off the shelf. Unfortunately, they aren't... and finding replacements will become more difficult as the years pass. Just look at all Apogee owners... not exactly easy to find parts when th...
Who Makes It Anyhow?
Keep in mind that most CD transport mechanisms are a basic "stock" unit from larger manufacturers. The cost for a high end manufacturer to build those components is simply out of reach. The transport mechanisms then tend to be highly tweaked by th...
Best Packaging in the Business
I must say that a few years ago I was setting up a pair of Wilson Watt/Puppies for a friend. The packaging for this things blew my mind. I mean, the construction of the crates was better than the construction of many loudspeakers out there. I also...
Studio gear vs. Hi-Fi gear Is Hi-Fi a ripoff?
Gil-I guess I am as well a bit confused... studio monitors aren't cheaper because they are studio monitors. Any speaker in question is simply cheaper to manufacture when produced in mass. Take a cheap pair of JBL studio monitors (don't remember th...
Studio gear vs. Hi-Fi gear Is Hi-Fi a ripoff?
Rgd-The reality is that when recordings are played on high resolution systems, every little flaw in the original recording, mixing, and mastering process can be heard. You can hear punch-ins, bad fades, noise in the recording gear or instruments, ...
Studio gear vs. Hi-Fi gear Is Hi-Fi a ripoff?
Having been a recording engineer in a prior life (primarily 2 channel but also multi-channel) and a high-end audiophile, I was often at odds with people "in the business". In a studio setting, keep in mind that the sound is in a sense "artificial"...
